Babysitting vs. Kidnapping

Is there a difference?

If there's something on your mind that just doesn't seem to fall into any of the other categories, well, it quite likely belongs inside Joe Finneman's marketplace. Think of it as a general store for general discussions!

There's a difference? :anxious:
One you get paid for and one is illegal.
The latter most times you get paid for and illegal.
That’s a good point. Depends on your motive though.
We need an entire discussion thread for this.
Discuss and/or plot.

When one babysits, it is usually for pay. But I guess some people can be nice, and do it for free. And I'm not sure why people would risk themselves for kidnapping someone for no pay...

That’s what the ransom is for.

Well I was envisioning some flunkie being hired to kidnap, flunkie gets paid, head dude gets the ransom.

True, but that’s beyond the scope of this discussion. We’re not talking big time multi-party kidnappings, just one person baby kidnappings, as opposed to babysitting, and which is the better choice.

Aside from the different spelling, there is no difference... except that babysitters get to sit on the baby and kidnappers don't \:D/ But they both watch over the kid and get payed so there isn't a difference.

I think that’s an oversimplification.
Let’s break the two situations down.

Babysitting:
  • Is legal.
  • Is done at the request of the guardian.
  • Is almost always paying.
  • Is only temporary, until the guardian returns.
  • Has conditions controlled by the guardian.
Kidnapping:
  • Is illegal.
  • Usually doesn’t have the consent of the guardian.
  • Is only sometimes paying, depending on the request/granting of a ransom.
  • Lasts indefinitely, until you chose to relinquish the victim or they die.
  • Has conditions controlled by you.
It would seem to me the better choice would depend on your motive. If you want the money, go for babysitting because that has a higher payment assurance and doesn’t have potential legal problems. But if you just want to get your hands on the kid, as it seemed TKD did, then kidnapping is clearly the way to go since it’s up to you when you have to give the kid back.

:hilarious: That sums up why you don't ever kidnap someone.

Teehee I remember reading that story in my 7th or 8th grade class \:D/ fun times.

as for the topic at hand, I find it amusing. I've never done either, so I can't comment ;)
