I found that rather fascinating, too! It wasn't until afterward that I discovered they had cast an Asian actor to play Russell.
Same here, I looked up the actor afterward out of curiosity.

Maybe neither one. Possibly the clouds were assigned the types of animals they create. Which could explain how he can be both proud of what he makes and wistful towards the clouds that make other animals. Or it could just be a case like "The Ugly Duckling", where he's sort of an incompetent misfit, so that's why he makes animals nobody likes.
Phew, Pixar is so philosophical!

It really is! And that's more than you can say for most animated movies. *cough*Dreamworks*cough* :D

Good call Taq! I also thought of this story when I saw this section of the movie.

Very true. Monsters Vs. Aliens...? One of the most pointless movies ever. It had like, no depth.

I was going to go see Up, but instead went to Night at the Museum 2.

I thought Monsters vs. Aliens was actually one of Dreamworks' better films. :anxious: But on the whole, Pixar is definitely superior to all other studios. :noway:

I am a big fan of AIO, but I am not Jave Griffin or have ever been on AIO. I am just a huge fan of AIO and Jimmy Barclay. I love Odyssey, and Jimmy rules.

I just saw Up last night. I was an excellent film! I can see why it's now number 19 on imdb's top 250 movies.

Wow! I remember last summer, when WALL-E was even higher on the list; I believe it got up to #4. It's #42 now, however.

Well, I think Up was better than WALL-E, so I hope it stays pretty high.

Did you see that story about the girl with cancer's last wish to see this film?

Thanks for sharing the link, xiao. I'm glad the little girl's wish was granted, but it's sad that she didn't make it. :(

I read about that. It's really sad she didn't make it. :( I'm glad she got her wish fulfilled.
**possible spoilers...beware!**
I just saw it in 3D. Wow. Just wow! The characters were great, the story was excellent, and the talking dogs were hilarious (especially Alpha's chipmunk voice). I can't wait to see it again! The beginning montage almost made me cry. So did the part where Carl (one of my favorite Pixar characters now) was looking through Ellie's adventure book and he got to the message on the last page. Five stars. Next up, Toy Story 3. \:D/

I actually went to watch this in 3D yesterday. It was brilliant. \:D/
Raskolnikov wrote:Personally, I think Pixar trailers are different, creative, artistic, and basically brilliant. They always make you wonder, "what in the WORLD is this movie about?" Which is what trailers are supposed to do.

Most other trailers out there basically just show you the movie in 5 minutes, and I think that's lame.

Another thing Pixar trailers do is set expectations just at the right level by not being too over the top. The movie has plenty of room to meet and exceed expectations. If there's one thing I can't stand, it's a trailer that outshines its movie.
Yeah, I agree with that. When we were waiting for the film to start and they were showing various trailers, they pretty much showed everything that happens in the movie, except for the end, which can be easily deduced. ;)

The trailer of Up and the actual film were completely different. \:D/ I was just expecting pretty much a film with an old guy and a kid going on a trip with some evil antagonist and a bunch of jokes. I was very pleasantly surprised with a great plot. \:D/

The soundtrack was brilliant too. \:D/

Edit: Did anyone else see the credits? Christopher Plummer voiced Muntz. Plummer played Captain von Trapp in The Sound of Music. \:D/

I finally went to see Up yesterday with my brother, and we both really enjoyed the movie! I had read enough to be prepared for some sadness, but I definitely wanted to cry more than once! :sniff: I resisted the urge, though the same could not be said for the emotional girls in the row behind us. ;) I knew that the movie was supposed to be really good, but it still somehow surprised me with how good it really was! So much emotion and caring and depth were packed in, and often words weren't even needed to communicate it all. They weren't afraid of silences. A lot movies that are for kids (though obviously Up has a much broader appeal) go for the cheap gags and fill in any little empty spaces with more (un)witty banter and attempts to get the cheap laughs. This movie didn't do that, and to resounding success! I definitely want to see this movie again.

Did you see it in 2D or 3D? :)

So true. It could be argued that those were the most poignant moments of the entire film.

Just in 2D at the lame local theatre. It was better than not seeing it at all, even if the theatre itself isn't that great. (But the better one is further away, so there you have it.) ;) But I had read somewhere (I think earlier in this thread) that 2D was pretty great too for this movie, so I wasn't concerned about not seeing it in 3D.

Yes, very true. :)
