... over a personal vendetta, and to the great detriment of the U.S. economy. For that and many other reasons, I am no acolyte of the unscrupulous and unrefined seventh president of the United States -- the man who perhaps singlehandedly soured de Tocqueville on American politicians. (Though Jackson's fellow Tennessean and frequent antagonist David Crockett didn't do much to enhance the reputation of American officeholders, either.)
"I will show you fear in a handful of dust."
Interesting timing for this topic, considering that I'm taking a class called "Religion and the American Presidency" this semester. My familiarity with the presidents (up to this point) is rather weak, but I'm interested in Eisenhower, FDR, Washington, Adams, Jefferson, Lincoln, and the more recent ones as well. Probably the only reason I'm not as interested in the others is that I don't know enough about them yet to pique my curiosity.

I thought it showed great moral uptitude when Lincoln's campaign printed counterfeit tickets to get extra people into the convention so that he would get the nomination with illegal votes!

And here I thought deTocqueville was rather upbeat in his conclusions.Clodius Albinus wrote:... the man who perhaps singlehandedly soured de Tocqueville on American politicians.
