Well, people were a little more split last year. Basically, there was no Pixar movie and so there was room for opinion.

Personally, while I feel The Lego movie was superior to The Boxtrolls, I can't think of any films on there that were actually bad and needed to removed. And again, I'd like to see more lesser known films. The Oscars shouldn't be a popularity contest. Lego Movie was a very popular, mainstream film. People make a big deal about those films, but hardly ever others. I'm glad the lesser known Song of the Sea and Princess Kaguya were there that year, both excellent. Song of the Sea in particular was easily a match for the Lego movie.

It certainly was not a given after the Lego joke last year.

I'm still miffed that The LEGO Movie didn't even get nominated last year.

I finally bought this! Long overdue, but I was waiting to see if they were going to redo the cover to mention Academy Award winner because I really wanted that. But I saw it brand new on eBay for a price I couldn't pass up.

Fun! Some movies are like that - you want to own them, but still at the right price. I should watch it again some time soon!

Rewatched this a couple days ago ahead of seeing the sequel!

Shockingly, this was actually my first time watching it again since I saw it in the theater! The right circumstances just never quite came up; I wasn't actively avoiding rewatching it, though I do think in the back of my mind there was the slightest concern over whether when I finally did see it again what if it wasn't as meaningful to me as I remembered it being, since it was so extremely significant the first time. I didn't honestly think that would end up being the case, but it was in the very back of my mind.

I'm very happy to say it was every bit as smart, moving, and meaningful on rewatch as I remembered it being originally. I raved about it enough back then, I won't repeat myself here other than say again I have so much appreciation for the cleverness of the minds that put together the details of this movie. It is truly so well done.

It's great that your rewatch went so well! I watched it again myself before seeing the sequel and really enjoyed the magic all over again. I laughed a lot. I remembered the basics but not all the specifics, so it was so much fun to enjoy it all over again.
