Mockingjay Films
Part 1 and 2
Mockingjay Films
So I guess the official trailer was released today? Or maybe I'm just behind the times.
Does anyone have thoughts on this being split into two movies? I normally hate it when movies are split (hopefully Hollywood grows out of this phase after The Hobbit and The Hunger Games have run their course), but the book always felt rushed to me, so maybe the extra movie will be a good thing and will allow time to develop some themes that were rushed in the book...? Or maybe that's just wishful thinking.
Anyways, so far it looks pretty cool, so I'm excited.

Mocking Jay didn't contain enough material for one book, let alone two movies.
My expectations have just dropped tremendously.

They/Them
I have a feeling there are going to be long battle scenes.
I'm super excited.
The whole idea of The Hunger Games was just meant to be a movie, imho, and I think spreading it out and deeply exploring the themes is a good thing. I have really come to love dystopian fiction and the way it explores (and even twists) our preconceived notions about society.

*somewhat unrelated*
Aeva, have you read Uglies, by Scott Westerfeld? It's a fantastic Dysto-Fic. Uglies is actually the series got me into Dystopian Fiction back when I was 12 or 13, and I've loved it ever since.

They/Them
Catching Fire was most certainly better than The Hunger Games, as far as the films go. I'll probably check this one out when it hits theaters.
I have not, but it's on my list. However, I did read "Unwind" by Neal Shusterman and really enjoyed that one.~JCGJ~ wrote:*somewhat unrelated*

EDIT: I had to check the spelling of his name, and I just found out that he published three more books after Unwind. O.o Looks like I found my winter break reading material!

It was so good. But come on Hollywood. Everybody's tired of watching their favorite franchises get their final installments split into two. I don't feel like I saw a movie... I feel like I saw half of a movie.

Well, you did. Right? I don’t think these split finales are supposed to be two contained movies that cover the ending, I think they’re one massive movie covering the ending that is split in two parts.Jelly wrote:I don't feel like I saw a movie... I feel like I saw half of a movie.

Then you get movies like The Hobbit that are so special that they get three parts.
"And the fire with all the strength it hath."
I still haven’t seen the first movie, but because I liked the second one a lot I went along with my group again to this one.
It was alright. I liked it, but I didn’t come away thinking ‘That was really good’ like I did with Catching Fire. Something just didn’t fully connect with me; not sure what.

I'm so excited for this movie! I can tell which scenes are which and I really like how it's looking so far!
Are you? Are you? Coming to the tree?
Where they strung up a man? (They say he murdered three.)

Me and my friends are continuing our tradition of seeing a midnight (well, 8pm) showing of the Hunger Games movie. And this is for the last time, so it's bittersweet
Till the end of the line.

It was... everything it needed to be. A satisfying ending.
