Just Practice More Judges discussion thread
This thread is for our wonderful judges, Bookworm, Musical Shutterbug, and Woody, to discuss the Just Practice More entries.
bookworm: The mean one
Musical Shutterbug: The positive and sometimes reasonable one
Woody: The one who always says "yo dawg" and stuff

Ugh, why was this so long? I didn’t sign on to do this for the entry to go on and on and on! The contest didn’t call for an entire piece of music, you only needed to submit a sampling. This song was so repetitive there were several parts you could have cut out without losing the effect of the piece.Entry #1: http://vimeo.com/60036169

This thread should probably have been created before the voting began... :/
They/Them
First, how dare you post in the judges only thread?
But second, nah this is fine. We’re not affecting anything, this is just for fun.

Six minutes is an awfully long amount of time for a song. You could have easily finished at 4:32 and it would have been absolutely fine. But, that's just my opinion.Entry #1: http://vimeo.com/60036169
You have a strong attitude of confidence when you play, which is lovely to observe. It definitely draws the viewer/listener into the song.
I love this piece because it tells a story, with various moments of strength and quietness. I listened to it twice, and it was even better the second time around.
Also, great cinematography.

How absurd! Why would you play a piano upside down? That’s simply ridiculous.Entry #2:

Woah.
That's really all there is to say.

As I said in the judging of AYTYGT, playing with a backing track is clearly an attempt to make you sound better than you are. If you yourself don’t consider your talent good enough to present on its own, who am I to disagree?Entry #3:

Kudos to you for pulling off a slow song without making it boringEntry #3:
This was so lovely! I loved the soft vocals combined with the memorable song. Fantastic job.Entry #4:

I hope that was supposed to be a lullaby, because it nearly put me to sleep. The melody droned on in such muted tones it deadened the senses. You have to have some variations from time to time.Entry #4:

If that happened, the person who sang this probably did what they hoped for. You pretty much complimented the singer, and therefore did a bad job.bookworm wrote:, because it nearly put me to sleep.Entry #4:

STAR WARS! I LOVE YOU.
Really, anything to do with Star Wars is automatically amazing.

The tempo was off! How dare you cover such an iconic piece of music if you aren’t going to do it right?!Entry #5:
