o_O;
What?
You realize there are such things as christian rappers right? And even beyond christian there are rappers that don't have any bad elements to it at all. Some rap does have objectionable content you might not want to peep out...just like country, pop, and rock has objectionable content as well. >_> To categorize all rap as bad is just ignorant and insulting.
Prepare to pass out. I don't listen to Country or Rock either. (If Susan Boyle counts, then I listen to pop.)
Are you my mom?
What do you listen to? There's objectionable content in classical operas, and the lives of most of the classical music composers were not that hot. And CCM isn't good either.
I do not listen to what could be classified as CCM, although I do like some more contemporary songs. I don't know how to classify the kind of stuff I listen to. Hey, I know my opinion is not a popular one. But I'm just trying to serve God, and I personally feel that those styles of music take my attention off of God. Music is a very personal thing. Whats wrong for one person is not the same as for another. But there are some types of music that I could not say would be right for Christians.
I personally feel that music with drums in it is satanic.
Music is not personal.
There is black and white. You can't say what's wrong for one person isn't wrong for another. BLACK AND WHITE I TELL YOU!
Down with drums!!!
Black and white!!!
Drums are EVIL!!
BLACK AND WHITE!!!

My Dad likes to quote this. "Just because you were born in a barn doesnt mean you're a cow." IMO, there is no such thing as Christian rap. If you listen to regular rap or Christian rap, there is only one difference. The words. Kind of like the Odyssey "By Any Other Name", you can't just change the name- or in this case, the words of a song and make it something else. Rap is Rap, even the singer happens to be rapping about God. I know the kinds of music that lifts people's spirits and glorifies God, and rap is certainly not it.
I disagree. God can use anyone - or anything - to bring praise to him. Even rap. What about rap is so bad? The fact that he's saying the words really fast and not singing? If you took the words from a hymn and put them on a rap song, would you say that God doesn't want Christians to listen to that?
Tell me, does classical music glorify God? Does it lift your spirits?
I don't believe every type of music we have to listen to has to glorify God. I said music labeled Christian should glorify God. I like Easy Listening music. The heavy beat of rap is just sickening. To be honest, I feel like I'm always disagreeing with someone about something. I know I have a much more conservative view on life than most of the members of the ToO. I really would rather just be friends with you guys than always arguing. If that's okay, I'll leave with this, because Jesus explained it way better than I can.

So, rap is sickening to you. That DOES NOT mean it is evil. So, you said 'music labeled Christian should glorify God.' I'm not arguing with that.
The point of disagreement is that you believe it's impossible for rap to glorify God, correct?
Hey, iluvsns, just because we disagree doesn't mean we can't be friends. We're just having a nice friendly discussion here.
Heh, I just found this after slightly talking about rap with EK in the chatroom.
The first actual rap I ever got was the oldschool dcTalk stuff from the early 90's (got a couple CDs free a couple months ago)
And then I wanted some more modern Christian rap so I went for the Lecrae that Jayaar's brother was posting on Facebook:
And to show how varied my music tastes are, this afternoon I was listening to my MP3 player on shuffle and went straight from rap to classical music.
StrongNChrist 1991-2011 Use the chatroom! It's been active for a year, and most of you are missing it.
"Every time I start banging rocks together to make a beat, I feel all guilty and I need to repent for my sinful ways. " - Jelly
"I actually want to see this happen... the controversy would be legendary. " - American Eagle
":hilarious: This ladies and gentlemen is the founding of: 'The Awkward Club!'" - Steve
"Happy birthday, big Mercy! " - Whitty Whit
I wasn't yelling. I was talking with vehemence.
I like some forms of rap in principle, but you don't hear much of it these days. Somewhere down the line, entirely too much of the genre became about extremely loud, thumping instruments and vague lyrics (it's all about the feel!) that glorify the worst of humanity... rather than focusing on clever lyrics with minimal accompaniment, which is something I can get behind.
