Clanging Cymbals and the Meaning of God's Love
And that, folks, is the title of our beloved Album 54. It's right up there with "A Date with Dad (and Other Calamities)" as titles that are just way too long.
So... what do you think of the new title? Could there have been a more excellent way to name it?
EDIT: It's now "Clanging Cymbals . . . And The Meaning Of Love".

It's not that long...well, yes it is, but it's a more creative title than Cause and Effect or Take It From the Top.

Were did you see the name?
My first thought... horrible. I do however have the tenancy to hate everything new so maybe I just need to give it a chance. You are right though, it does sound way to long.

But it's still more creative than what they've been coming out with, lately.

How is it more creative? I'm not saying it's not, it just doesn't sound very clever to me.

I like it, actually. It's unique. It isn't outrageously long. It has a clear connection to a famous Bible passage. You can say it all in one breath. I haven't heard the podcast, so I don't know if they say anything about the episodes, but this was supposed to be a themed kind of album, right? I'm guessing that there's at least one episode on love (I'm just smart like that) but it's not like the title has to describe every episode or rock the world. Old albums like "Puns, Parables, and Perilous Predicaments" (album 4) have long names, and because we're used to them, we like them. (Yes, I know they renamed it something shorter for the Gold Audio sets, but that was still the original name!) I think this will grow on people. Give it a chance! We haven't even heard any of album 53. It's a little early to be criticizing album 54, isn't it?

It's more creative in that it doesn't sound cliche or cheesy. It sounds humorous and witty.

I'm so glad that they chose not to use that name.American Eagle wrote:And that, folks, is the title of our beloved Album 54. It's right up there with "A Date with Dad (and Other Calamities)" as titles that are just way too long.

The original idea was "A More Excellent Way", which Whit would've probably never stood for as an English teacher, at the sheer sound of such a name. It's correct, but it sounds awful. This title is better I'll say, but I think it sounds like the name of a Veggietales show, IMO. I suppose I should listen to the Podcast before I make any judgements, however.
Oh, I see. Clever, AE.

In case no one else got this, the "clanging cymbals" part is referring to 1st Corinthians 13 verse 1 - "If I speak in the tongues of mortals and of angels, but do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal". This album title is referring to 'true love', and the absence 'love'. "Love", not being referred to as something romantic, but agape love.
"And the Lord saw that man had created the Internet, and He was most distressed. For once people started using chatspeak and improper grammar, their level of smartness was decreased by more than 500%. And so the Lord removed all the gifts he had once bestowed on man, and it was very sad." The Book of Marvin, Chapter 351, Verse 442.

Is that Psalm 150? That's what I thought of when I saw the Clanging Cymbals bit...I noticed Jesus_Minime's 1st Corinthians reference, but I wondered if that's what came to mind for anyone else.Catspaw wrote:It has a clear connection to a famous Bible passage.

I personally like the title. I don't really care about the length, and I don't really see anything wrong with the title.
Thanks to my Secret Santa for the set!

1st Cor. 13 talks about what love really is, as well as mentioning that if people do actions but don't have love, they're like clanging sybmols and such so I can see the connection there.
I'm not a huge fan of the latest episodes really. Not really a huge fan of AIO anymore to be honest. But I like the title. Sounds rather cool really.

This may be a little reading too much into things, but I have an idea that came from this. All of the thematic albums we've had (4,13,17) have had all 12 episodes on the subject they're teaching about. Now love is a broad topic, but not that broad. I'd guess that filling 12 individual episodes, or even the usual 9-10 "whole episodes" (grouping 2 & 3 parters), I would be hard to stretch that topic into that many consecutive stories, unless several of those stories were part of a story line. Not a big 12-part arc like DBD or the Green Ring, but some small story lines, like 46-49, where we had the Straussberg Divorce, Connie's book, Grady's Faith, Leonard Meltsner, etc. This is my theory.
