Where Odyssey Is Not -- New and Improved!
Hello everyone, I've been taking care of some major renovations to the "Where Odyssey Is Not" section at the Odyssey Scoop, and I thought it might help to start a topic on here to gather some clues. Feel free to post any information you have, including references to states, trivia knowledge that may help, history, etc. Basically if you're wondering if I could use a piece of information, post it. I'd love to incorporate it into the section.
If you're wondering what this is all about, visit the old version of the site here: http://states.odysseyscoop.com. It's going to be a lot bigger than we ever imagined by time this renovation project is through.
I'll be releasing the new and improved "Where Odyssey Is Not" section in the very near future. Thanks!
UPDATE:
Hey everyone,
As a heads up, the new and improved "Where Odyssey Is Not" section has been released. It's been improved ten times better than even I expected. You now have the chance to HEAR characters proving where Odyssey is not... Be sure to read September 19th's blog entry for all the details. Thanks for all your help everyone! You helped us plug a little away at getting the section complete.
There's some other big updates over there too, which I'm sure you'll notice...

Haha, thanks... though the Official Guide published what is at the Odyssey Scoop! There's a link on page 200. Very cool!

Timmy's Cabin seems to eliminate a whole lot of places. (everything except Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Pennsylvania, and maybe one or two other states)
Heh... Jacob is the one who wrote what's in there!31899 wrote:You probably already used it but the Official Guide has a page about this.

I wasn't sure if you were basing your list strictly on character quotes, but just in case you weren't...
I was recently listening to Bernard and Eugene's road trip to California and in "Second Thoughts" they get stranded in Iowa. Taking this into account, you could probably rule out a lot of other states. Doing this I narrowed the list to ten- Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Hampshire, Ohio, Rhode Island, Vermont, and West Virginia.
You could probably even eliminate a few other states as well. First if they had started in West Virginia, they probably wouldn't have gone all the way up into Iowa, though it's not impossible. Also, if Odyssey were in Illinois, to go through Iowa they would have had to have started in the northern part of the state. If Odyssey were in the northern part of the state, why would they fly to Chicago? Wouldn't it be easier to drive?

Yep. Using my signature for a shameless plug. But trust me. If I can be so arrogant, I think it'll be worth your time.

AIOWiki totally copied you with their "Where Odyssey Is Not" page, but it may have more than yours currently. I'm not sure.

Thanks, I'll try and incorporate this information in my work. The section is just about complete and your list is not too far off from mine. It's almost right on!Dallas R. wrote:I wasn't sure if you were basing your list strictly on character quotes, but just in case you weren't...

Thanks to "The Underground Railroad," we know that Odyssey is not in Tennessee, or any other state south of Tennessee, and also in a state that was involved with the Underground Railroad (which narrows it down quite a bit).

IL, IN and OH are the only options left based on it being in the Midwest, the underground railroad running through it and it being part of a tri-state area.

Odyssey is totally in Ohio!
I haven't listened to the show in a long time but didn't "Silver Lining" happen in West Virginia?Dallas R. wrote:You could probably even eliminate a few other states as well. In Dead Ends when Eugene goes up to Arlington Heights to visit his foster parents, he tells Katrina that he'll be home "before dark". Now, the only Arlington Heights I know of is the Chicago suburb, so unless there's another Arlington Heights I don't know about my guess is that it's safe to say Odyssey is somewhere in either Ohio or Indiana.

Arlington heights is a made up town, just like Waynestown or Odenton. It's just a coincidence that it happens to exist in real life too, just like how there's a Connelsville... PA, I think.Ingress Neverwhere wrote:In Dead Ends when Eugene goes up to Arlington Heights to visit his foster parents, he tells Katrina that he'll be home "before dark". Family Portraits #1 and #3 have clear refrences.King Butter Turtle wrote:Family Portraits and Odyssey USA both take place in OH.31899 wrote:I'm pretty sure the state is mentioned in family portrait.
I've also heard all of the OUSA (1-22) episodes, and I have not found one Ohio refrence.
