Favorite Movies From the 1980's

Post by Movieman »

As we all know, the 1980's have given birth to some of the best movies in history. Name some of your favorites and why. EARLY 1990's are permitted too (no later than 1992).

I have to say that "The Goonies" is one of my favorite movies ever. I've always liked movies about people hunting for treasure.

Back to the Future! \:D/

The 1980's had a lot of great movies... but Back to the Future is one of my favorites of all time... so that gets top billing, IMO. \:D/

80's had lots of cool things, though... like Princess Bride, the Rambo movies, tons of Arnold's awesome films, Cobra... and tons of other things I'm sure I'm forgetting at the moment. ;)

And, oh yeah... Red Dawn! \:D/

Definitely the Back to the Future trilogy, as Top said. I remember when they finally made 2 and 3 - it felt like forever that we had to wait after the first ended with "to be continued..." Classic favs are always E.T., Star Wars (actually Return of the Jedi was the only one that is technically 80s), The Neverending Story... I also really like Stand By Me, The Lost Boys, and most other movies that feature one or both of the two Coreys. \:D/

I have the Ferris Bueller song on my computer. You know, the one that they play throughout the whole movie with that deep voice going "Oh Yeah!".

Back to the Future and Princess Bride probably my two favorites from that decade.

Though neither exactly screams 80's for some reason :-k (perhaps the fact that they're set in different time periods might have something to do with it ;)). I'd say my favorite "80's" movie that really reminds me of the decade is Karate Kid.

You know, I have somehow managed to never see Karate Kid.

They are apparently remaking it with one of Will Smith's kids in the lead roll.

Top, that is an outrage. Knowing your... ahem... entertainment preferences :anxious: I was positive this was on your DVD shelf. This is a must rent for you buddy.

I'll tell Jessica what your next date night video will be \:D/

1-3 are all good, but just say no to The Next Karate Kid. :shame:

Actually, those were great in my childhood. We spent lots of time perfecting the crane. Yay for Peter Cetera music. \:D/

If I remeber correctly, Back to the Future had the most curse words in a movie I have ever seen.

I take it you missed Pulp Fiction and any other Quentin Tarantino movies then? ;) Here's imdb's recap of Back to the Future's profanity: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0088763/parentalguide
Mild to moderate. The word "s---" is used often due to standards at the time of the films release. Jesus' name is abused a good number of times.

Dude I totally forgot about Robocop, that is indeed a classic! \:D/

Also, the Punisher movie from that era... \:D/ I like the newer one with Thomas Jane better but it was pretty cool.

A favorite of my husband! I never got into it, but he adores it.
Septimius Severus wrote:2. Spaceballs - (I gave Mel Brooks a second chance)
He needed a second chance? :-s I did love this when it was new, but it is now not my favorite Mel Brooks movie. That would be Blazing Saddles.
Septimius Severus wrote:3. Dead Poets Society
Wow, I so considered this a 90s movie but it was out in 89. It has that decade cusp thing. Really more a 90s feel to me than what the 80s were about. Plus all those guys got to be stars in the early 90s.
