I took the meaning to be more that we are so used to things being automated, having machines do things for us, that we wouldn't even be able to help ourselves. A large portion of the population is getting so lazy that they never take the stairs. We just sit on the couch and never have to get up. That's why they were doing a contest to give away personal training sessions. And some do need it more than others!

Hmm... maybe I should take a walk later...
