It almost made me cry too
Very few Disney movies make me cry

It was a nice difference from traditional Disney villains. Besides, voodoo is a part of New Orleans culture and history as much as gumbo.Termite wrote:The voodoo was pathetic. >_> Really? What happened to the cackling old witch with a cauldron of bubbling green goo? *sighs* I was highly disappointed with Disney on that one... If they'd had a different antagonist, it would've been one of my favorites. As it is I don't feel like watching it again because of that... Never liked stuff like that, even if it is in an animated movie.
This I agree with. I have seen the movie, and the story (poor girl wanting to own a restaurant, etc.), animation and music were good.AIO Psyche wrote:It was sweet, had loads of heart, was beautifully animated, had a strong story, great voice acting, and the music was fantastic! And it's about time we had a black princess!!!!!
Oh goodness, you're crazy!! 'Friends On The Other Side' is like one of the best songs!! Mama Odie was a slightly weak character, and they could have done so much more with her.American Eagle wrote:This I agree with. However, I am not a fan of the film. Instead of being a cute, fun movie about a girl fighting in a tough world to fulfill her father's dream (if I remember right), the story turned into a dark portrayal of voodoo and demonic activity. The song "Friends on the Other Side" and a few other scenes showed the villain calling on his demon friends, and the back story is the souls of everyone in New Orleans being sold to Satan. To make matters worse, the characters are directed to a "good voodoo lady" for help.
I can take a mentioned "curse" in Beauty in the Beast. Although I'm undoubtedly not a fan of curses, I can overlook it and focus on the story being portrayed. The Princess and the Frog, on the other hand, was a dark story without even a good vs. evil story (unless you think voodoo can be good). I want to like this movie, but can't.
Same here. In the middle of the movie, my mom said she wasn't in the mood for an animated one. So, I guess I will have to watch it another time.EMBEE wrote:I still haven't seen the whole thing, but what I did see, I LOVED. It was pretty awesome. I really need to watch the rest of it sometime.
O M G You have a piece of gold sitting on your shelf!!! Do yourself a favor, and watch it tonight, sister!!! LOLLaurie wrote:I did not get to see it in the theater, I bought the DVD but have not watched yet.
But, those 'spazzing little witches' were portrayed, rather realistically, using magic for bad. Magic is magic. A sin is a sin. Where do you draw the line?Termite wrote:I have a problem, AIOP, when it comes to including real, dark magic. The spazzing little witches of Disney's past were so fake and magic like that doesn't exist, so I couldn't have cared less. But voodoo is real. There are real voodoo witches worshipping Satan, and I was disappointed that Disney decided to put it in there.
I don't care if it's a part of New Orleans' culture; it's still wrong. Like Anastasia. Really? Limbo/heck? No... Just no.
The difference is fantasy and reality, imo. You're smart, so I won't go into detail explaining the difference between the spastic hags and a voodoo witch doctor. =PAIO Psyche wrote:But, those 'spazzing little witches' were portrayed, rather realistically, using magic for bad. The whole 'magic' thing seems the source of a never ending battle with Christians and religious people.
Here is how I look at it.
Its a movie. ITS JUST A MOVIE.
There are SOOOOO many more real, and important, things in the world to be concerned about, and worry about. When a movie starts getting me worked up, I think it's time to take a step back and look at the situation LOL
You're darn right I'm smart! That's why they let me run the ride at work!! I get to hit the green flashing button!!!Termite wrote:The difference is fantasy and reality, imo. You're smart, so I won't go into detail explaining the difference between the spastic hags and a voodoo witch doctor. =P
But what's in the movie not just a thing. It's real. That is where I draw the line. Like it if you wish, but next time go ahead and tell me to my face you think I need to step back and look at the situation instead of beating around the bush. But I shan't like it anyways.
*cough* Back to the thread's topic now, hm?
