What movie format do you use?

Post by American Eagle »

What movie formats do you use?
  • Blu-ray. All films shown in the Blu-ray format.
  • DVD. All movies in the DVD format, whether rented from a movie store, redbox, ordered from netflix, from your collection, etc.
  • Online. This includes movies from YouTube, Hulu, Crackle and miscellaneous slightly-less-than-legal sources on the Internet.
  • Television. This includes all movies that you have watched on television, including pay-per-view services.
  • Theaters. This includes all films saw at a theater (cinema) or film festivals.
  • VHS. See "DVD" above, but in the VHS format.
Why is VHS so much better quality than Blu-ray? Why do you love watching movies on TV so much? Discuss! \:D/

Hopefully this spins off into a widescreen VS fullscreen debate! \:D/

I have... way too many dvds. I have no idea how many, hundreds and hundreds. >_>

I technically still have some VHS, but mainly only use the ones that are rare and don't have an actual DVD release, which sadly happens from time to time. :(

Theaters... well, I go. Rarely. But technically. Saw Robin Hood at the Dollar Theater last week.

I rarely watch movies on TV because other than TCM they all have commercials. ;) AMC was awesome back in the day when they were commercial free. They used to show the classic Universal Horror and random Godzilla and other various Toho films on and around Halloween... that was just incredible at the time, and commercial free to boot. ;)

Just got a 30 day free trial of Netflix, so I guess that counts as online for the online streaming? Plus... I borrow movies off the internet frequently, because its easier than waiting for them in the mail or digging through 1000's of DVDs. \:D/

Blu-ray... I don't like. :noway: A friend of mine got a BR player not too long ago, and its just annoying. It sort of in a weird way makes things look better, but it to me at least makes things look TOO clear, and fakish. Especially special effects. They had Transformers 2 on, which while the movie is dumb had great special effects, I thought. But on blu-ray the robots just look cartoonish instead of "real" because of the high definition or something. :noway:

DVD and TV. I don't go to the theater like I used to. I have just discovered that it is easier to wait and buy the movies on DVD. The home environment is so much quieter and cleaner than any movie theater anyway.

DVD, VHS, the theater. We don't have a blue-ray player, so I've never seen a movie in that format.

Theaters occasionally, DVD, Television (rarely), and online. We don't have a Blu-ray player, and we got rid of our VHS player several years ago.

I go to the theatre's occasionally. I mostly watch movies on DVD, and on tv if there is a good one on.

VHS all the way! I have quite a few DVD's, but a lot more VHS. I love going to garage sales and coming home with ten 'new' VHS movies for .25 each. I just hope they don't stop making VCR's now. Then again, I've got a good seven or so of them still around too.
Theaters: very occasional, maybe twice a year. Online: maybe Hulu, very rarely. TV: I don't have satellite, and they don't seem to be playing many movies lately on the few channels I have. Blu-Ray: still haven't seen any yet.

Yep. Using my signature for a shameless plug. But trust me. If I can be so arrogant, I think it'll be worth your time.

Eh, I use digital media almost exclusively now (besides going to the theatre which i'll do a lot during the summer), renting movies from the xbox is super easy and cheaper than buying the DVD, same for renting from itunes...it's just so convenient. Of course since I live in the hood i'll sometimes pick up bootleg movies from the hustle man down the street. \:D/

I mainly watch DVDs with some VHS scattered in there - both ones we own and what gets borrowed from the library. Occasionally my family goes to the theater for films: CoN, LOTR, and Sherwood Pictures productions mostly. :)

We have a PS3 and they come with a built in BLU-RAY player so that's why we use blu-ray. (mainly)

DVD is basically the only way I watch movies because we don't have a TV. The only way I can watch movies on my computer is through DVD. We have dial-up so I can't watch the movies online but I use the public library computer or my mom's computer to watch movies online. Sometimes I will use my mom's cell phone but since we don't have a good cell phone signal (for the same reason we only have dial-up) I can only use her phone we go somewhere else.
