Not the greatest episode of all time, but hey I don't see what was so HORRIBLE about it.
Plus it was sort of fitting for Whit and Blackgaard to "meet" one last time since Whit was gone during Darkness Before Dawn.

I agree. I actually like Blackgaard's Revenge. I just can't listen to it at night because it slightly freaks me out.

I found it odd. I didn't particularly like it... but, if I had to listen to it again, I would. That's what I should write down... Blackgaard's Revenge...
It wasn't horrible, but there was lot of nonsense I didn't care about. It could have done well as just a one-parter! And poor Aubrey!

It's not one of my favorites, but I don't mind it. Blackgaard coming back was fine, but my only complaint is that it just doesn't seem to fit in with the rest of the saga.

Good thread, Top! I don't mind Blackgaard's Revenge either; it's average or better in my book. I was kind of surprised that it made the polls in the recent worst episode thread. I can see why some dislike it, but those things don't bother me.

Fans have groupthink sometimes and Blackgaard's Revenge seems to me to be one of those times. They get online and read how awful it is and then feel guilty for thinking it was good.

I do that a lot with movies when I read other people like it! Good thinkin'.Chandlah wrote:Fans have groupthink sometimes and Blackgaard's Revenge seems to me to be one of those times. They get online and read how awful it is and then feel guilty for thinking it was good.

My least favorite part about the episode was that Blackgaard is dead and I want him to stay dead. The episode was entertaining (and scary), so it's one I'd listen to again. It's decent.

I am still waiting to see that episode.

I always loved this episode. I also loved Fairy Tal-E-Vision because it was pretty funny. I liked this episode because Whit finally gets one last confrontation with Blackgaard (even if he is a computer virus). I also like this episode because I never liked the way Blackgaard was killed. Jack's there, for some reason, and Whit isn't. Blackgaard comments that he sold his soul long ago, and Jack takes it literally (I did this too when I was much younger.) But it sounds to me like Blackgaard just thought because of all the things he did, he couldn't ever be saved. But Jack goes, OKAITHXBAI, and everything blows up.
Of course, Blackgaard could be the devil incarnate, and what I said wouldn't matter.
I also like BR because it actually had a sense of peril that some previous episodes lacked.
(I'm really sorry this post is so incoherent.

Haha, this is the only episode that I never want to hear again. The Blackgaard saga ended with such a big boom (pun intened)! And then they bring him back as a computer program? He admited in album 5 that he "illerate when it comes to computers" or something similar.
Sorry, I just plain don't like it.

Good call, Chandlah. For the new episodes that come out, I'm going to resist reading reviews until I've heard the episode and have thought about it independently first. It's been something I've tried to do over the years, but this time I'm going to be consistent.Chandlah wrote:Fans have groupthink sometimes and Blackgaard's Revenge seems to me to be one of those times. ...It was horrible. The plot was totally ridiculous. I would rather Gabriel Dragsack have shown up!

Jack doesn't really go "OKAITHXBAI." I think he was really trying to get it through Blackgaard's two-miles-thick head that he could be saved, and he was trying, really, as hard as he could.Kairi wrote: Blackgaard comments that he sold his soul long ago, and Jack takes it literally (I did this too when I was much younger.) I have to admit, I like the way both Whit and Jack spoke on Blackgaard's death: "May God have mercy on his soul."
At first, I thought, "How is that possible? He's gonna go to heck; that's not really mercy." But now that I think about it, if Blackgaard's last thoughts were even simply "Jesus, save me," it would have happened. I like the way that they imply that a person will never know who goes to heaven and who to heck until they get to that point. It's sort of a benefit of the doubt thing.
And they never go in depth with the whole death thing, either. They simply say, "A soul so immersed in evil can only go to one place without Jesus." A subject so complex can really only be summarized with a statement so true. I don't think they were willing to go deep into the subject after "The Mortal Coil."
This episode was really, really good. I LOVED it, and I loved Whit's point: "You've had your chance." And he's right--according to a song by (I think) 33 Miles, "You only get just one time around/You only get one shot at this." It's one of those things where kids can get a direct point without listening to Chris at the end, something that most kids don't do--listening to Chris, I mean.

"Death's got an Invisibility Cloak?" "So he can sneak up on people. Sometimes he gets bored of running at them, flapping his arms and shrieking..."
"And now the spinning. Thank you for nothing, you useless reptile."
"It unscrews the other way."

I guess I always remembered Blackgaard commenting on his soul being condemned because he sold it, and Jack saying something like "sorry, that's too bad". I'm remembering the episode wrong. I haven't actually listened to it for a long time.

I'm not alone!
I liked it, myself, and thought it ended that legacy nicely. So what if it was a little unrealistic. It's a radio show.

When I first heard "Blackgaard's Revenge," I thought it was exciting and interesting. Now, though, I prefer Blackgaard's story ending in "The Final Conflict" - rings truer and is much more powerful. I wouldn't say "Blackgaard's Revenge" is the "worst episode ever," though.

Jack's response was actually "Then you sold yourself cheap. Your soul was worth the life of Jesus Christ. To give it to anyone else is an incredible waste," to which Blackgaard replies by changing the subject.Kairi wrote:I guess I always remembered Blackgaard commenting on his soul being condemned because he sold it, and Jack saying something like "sorry, that's too bad". Worse episode ever, nope. We all know that the half shows are. I hope. I thought it kind of rained on the parade of the previous death of Blackgaard, but I do like the point, "We killed him twice. He's dead." That they tried to use the episode for in latter times.

I'm innocent in that regard, as I heard that episode appx. 6 months before I joined the TH, and even on that first listen I wasn't thrilled with it.Chandlah wrote:Fans have groupthink sometimes and Blackgaard's Revenge seems to me to be one of those times.
