I think men in ancient Egypt wore makeup. Either them or some other historical people. I remember reading that in one of my history books.Invisible Ninja wrote:There was a time that Women usualy didn't either.Tyler wrote:Guys usually don't.Invisible Ninja wrote:Does xiao wear makeup? That would be unhealthy, not exactly the same thing. (but I get your point, don't totaly agree with it, but I get it.)Tyler wrote:There was a time people didn't bathe everyday...do you want to go back to that?Invisible Ninja wrote:There was a time that Women usualy didn't either.Tyler wrote:Guys usually don't.Invisible Ninja wrote:Does xiao wear makeup? That's what's known as a self-fulfilling viscous cycle. Makeup clogs pores like nobody's business.Over the Rainbow wrote:Honestly I found some of these comments rather harsh.
So if I wear make-up, I'm automatically fake and unattractive according to some of you? Is that what you would think of me if you saw me today?
We're supposed to be clean and have a good appearence. For me, this means wearing cover-up and foundation, because I struggle with acne and without it, sometimes, my face looks like a pepperoni pizza. Espically after doing shows and musicals, when my face has been buried underneath an avalanche of technicolor junk.
And I do curl my eyelashes and put on eyeliner, to bring out my eyes. No where in the Bible does it say it is a sin to enhance our beauty or want to look beautiful. It only becomes a sin when our main focus is on our looks, ourselves, etc.
According to my determitologist, make-up usaully does not cause acne and it is not to blame in my case. However, tons of it after wearing it for days-to weeks for shows certainly does not help at all.Josef1004 wrote:That's what's known as a self-fulfilling viscous cycle. I'm going to be punished for having a freakishly long neck."The LORD says, 'The women of Zion are haughty, walking along with outstretched necks, flirting with their eyes, tripping along with mincing steps, with ornaments jingling on their ankles.
That reminds me of a really funny I Love Lucy episode.Chandler wrote:The Bible is very clear about how women should be attired.
"Likewise, I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments."
Clearly women should be dressed in plain burlap sacks, since they are modest and cheap. No jewelry or styled hair, either. That is backed up by this account of Jezebel, someone we never want to imitate.
"Then Jehu went to Jezreel. When Jezebel heard about it, she painted her eyes, arranged her hair and looked out of a window."
In fact, we are warned that making yourself up is quite dangerous!
"And you, O desolate one, what will you do?
Although you dress in scarlet,
Although you decorate yourself with ornaments of gold,
Although you enlarge your eyes with paint,
In vain you make yourself beautiful
Your lovers despise you;
They seek your life."
A comprehensive list of forbidden items as well as the final judgment of those who adorn themselves in such a way is clearly laid out.
"The LORD says, 'The women of Zion are haughty, walking along with outstretched necks, flirting with their eyes, tripping along with mincing steps, with ornaments jingling on their ankles.
Therefore the Lord will bring sores on the heads of the women of Zion; the LORD will make their scalps bald.
In that day the Lord will snatch away their finery: the bangles and headbands and crescent necklaces, the earrings and bracelets and veils, the headdresses and ankle chains and sashes, the perfume bottles and charms, the signet rings and nose rings, the fine robes and the capes and cloaks, the purses and mirrors, and the linen garments and tiaras and shawls.
Instead of fragrance there will be a stench; instead of a sash, a rope; instead of well-dressed hair, baldness; instead of fine clothing, sackcloth; instead of beauty, branding'."
If you've read any of my posts here at all you would find that I've explicitly stated that isn't what I believe... in fact I've gone on a giant rant with capitalized, bolded words that counter exactly what you are accusing me of here. I guess you didn't mind posting before looking?Kairi wrote:Ditto to what Invisible Ninja said. xiao is the one I was mainly referring to, because he seems to assume if you don't like makeup or you don't wear makeup or you don't have patience or time to apply makeup, you must not care at all about your appearance. Eh?Just because I don't wear makeup on a regular basis doesn't mean I don't care about my appearance, I do.
However, my opinion that xiao is not much of gentleman started long ago. I could be wrong, he could be a very nice young man and, indeed, a gentleman. I just don't get that vibe from his posts that I've read, unfortunately.
