New Orleans and Dulac, Louisiana

Yay! Mission trip!

If there's something on your mind that just doesn't seem to fall into any of the other categories, well, it quite likely belongs inside Joe Finneman's marketplace. Think of it as a general store for general discussions!

New Orleans and Dulac, Louisiana

Post by Lonesome Dove »

Well, hello there, ToO.

As very few of you know, I have been gone for a week or so with good reason. I travelled from my cute little Nebraska town to the giagantic burg of New Orleans, where I did many a thing.

So begins my tale ...

Sunday morning, May 30th, we set off to Louisiana. The bus ride was long, and the first night we stopped in Mesquite, Texas. My friend Celeste and I shared a room with two other girls, and while they were out of the room, we switched the paintings around in the room. It was quite amusing. ... At least we thought so.
The next day we traveled to New Orleans, and unpacked our Charter bus at the United Methodist Church, where we stayed.
The next morning we set off to work. A group of about 10 youth and two adults, including myself, headed to a house that needed extensive sanding and mudding. We found ourselves truly enjoying working, and we sang many songs as we all became fast friends. At the end of the day, I found I had a terrible headache, and needed medication and a Coke, for after that I was fine.
The next morning everything was well, and I enjoyed our worksite once again, but that night, something terrible happened.
I woke up at about two in the morning with horrible pains in my stomache. I will spare the details, but needless to say I ended up at our EMT's door sobbing and holding my tummy. She gave me some Phinnigrin, a pill to keep me from upchucking again, and sent me off to bed. But, alas, the Phinnigrin didn't work, and I couldn't go to work.
I slept for a while, and awoke in a dead panic. I ran to the bathroom ... but then everything went black. I woke up in the bus, on my way to the hospital.
They gave me an IV and a catscan. They say it was a mix of the flu and dehydration. I don't really remember much, they drugged me for my headache and queasiness.
That night we were on our way to Dulac, I slept most of the way there. Everyone was really worried about me.
I slept the whole next day. Casey found me next to the cookie jar when they got back from their site. I was ... really hungry. He laughed. Half of the contents of sid jar did not survive.
The next day I went back to work. I really didn't feel quite right, but I had an easy day, because I painted.
That night we went on a really cool swamp tour. It was awesome.
And the next day we headed to Six Flags. That was awesome, too.
And the last day we arrived home. I really missed my family.

So now I am back. Hi, guys.

Sounds fun! To bad you got sick though. :(

My parents are originally from New Orleans. Did you have any amazing Cajun food while there? \:D/

Glad you're feeling better. What little NE town are you from? I'm from Omaha.

Neat. Omaha isn't little though. Ever heard of Broken Bow? I'm near there.

Of course I've heard of Broken Bow! Approximate population 5,000, seat of Custer County, liscence plate number... 8, right? O:)

Man, I'm sorry you got so sick! Wasn't those raw oysters at Acme Oyster House, was it? *kidding*

I always wanted to go to New Orleans. Man, sounds like quite a trip you had. :D
