Congratulate me!

Post by Arwen »

I got into my first car accident tonight! \:D/ (EDIT: I got into my first car accident while DRIVING...this was the worse accident of my career, though)

I was making a left turn onto a road that dead ends on the road I was turning off of. I looked over and thought that the car coming up to the stop sign was coming a little too fast...the girl slammed on her brakes but it was way too late. I thought something like "Oh crud!" or maybe something a little more severe, and the car hit me. The glass in the driver's side door instantly shattered.

I pulled my car off to the side of the road and just sat there and stared at the other car and the other people in it. They quickly got out and asked if I was OK. I used one of their phones (no cell service) to call my parents (only 4 minutes away at home: go figure), while the other guy in her car called his dad. He would have called the police next but someone came by in a car and said he was with the fire department, and called his dispatcher for us.

I couldn't open my door, so I climbed out the other side and surveyed the damage. The only part of my car that was smashed in was the driver's door. Incredibly it wasn't dented on the inside.

I have a few dull aches that will really hurt when I wake up tomorrow, but that's it. God's got some sort of plan for me, I guess.

Anyway, we need to call the insurance company tomorrow. My car's 10 years old, so it most likely will be totaled. You all can pray I find a good used car for the price of the insurance money (which won't be a whole lot).

My mom insisted we go to the hospital to make sure I was OK...so I got to spend a lovely 3 hours waiting in the ER...*sigh* But I'm alright. :)

Yay for being stuck on extended vacation (not really).

---------------------------------------------------------------
EDIT: Went to the towing place today and I took some pictures (as well as retrieved the rest of the things I wanted from the car).

Its good to hear that you're fine. Hopefully you'll be able to find a good used car.

I saw you mention it elsewhere... what an experience! Good to hear that there was no major injury though. Did she just completely miss seeing the stop sign? Or were icy roads to blame? I hate car accidents. :displeased:

She just looked up and saw the stop sign WAY too late. I think somewhere in the back of my head I was like "You are hitting those brakes a little late...it's not going to help..."

Right now I'm just kind of OW.

Thank you, thank you. I was very mad that it was too dark to take a picture of my car with my phone, and that I had no flash camera on me...and I doubt I'm going to see my car again, so no pictures... But I'll post a picture of my "new" car when I get it. Pray I find a good one for under a grand.

Congrats, Arwen! \:D/ ;)

But yeah, like everyone else had said... glad you're okay. I have been fortunate enough to never be in anything other than a slight meeting of bumpers.

I honestly had NO time to be scared. Just shocked, and then mad (but surprisingly I found myself unable to remain angry), and then a little sad at the death of my first car.

Now, I'm kind of thinking about it...and it's like: "Wow, had that been a bigger car I could have died," and it still doesn't shock or excite me. I'm just annoyed that I'm stuck here doing nothing until I find out what's going to happen.

Congratulations! If you're going to get into a wreck, might as well make it count! ;)

I'm glad you're okay - it sounds like quite the frightening experience! Kind of like in the movies, where a car comes from seemingly out of nowhere and shockingly plows into another unsuspecting vehicle.

It's still odd to me that I was never actually scared at all. I did cry a tiny bit, but mostly because I was mad and sad about my car.

I will admit, though, that the paranoia/skittishness is starting to set in. I was riding in the car with my mom today and whenever a car started coming toward us I flinched...but I'm not at all afraid to get behind the wheel again. It's VERY weird.

It's good to know there were no serious injuries.
Maybe you could "bury" your old car in your attic like Mr. Bean.
