The New Voice for Bart Rathbone!
On the Feb 20, 2008 Official AIO Podcast (and in the upcoming spring 08 season)
I'm not sure why they're rushing to use someone. But I wouldn't mind the voice if they're using him it temporarily to create some episdoe that he leaves.
Why couldn't they make the character just get throat cancer, lung cancer, or something, and then that would explain his change of voice aftter the operation?

I don't know if you can say that the writers are "rushing" to use someone else. The last time we've heard Bart was in Prequels of Love, which aired last February. So it's been over a year since we've heard from him.
That being said, I hope the writers didn't bring back Bart just for the sake of having a Bart appearance. Obviously, it's still way too early to criticize any decisions since we haven't heard the new episodes yet, but I wonder if Bart's role is more than to simply provide comic relief. If so, then I have absolutely no problem with them using a different actor. However, if Bart is simply used to provide humor to the show, then I wonder if the writers would have been better off using a different character entirely. We shall soon see!
As far as having Bart get throat or lung cancer... I don't know how well that would be perceived by the fans. Most people are well aware of the fact that Walker passed away and I don't know if using an illness as an excuse for the new voice would be the best option.

It was in one of the official Odyssey podcast where they showed that Will had filled in for Chris on a few occasions. I never even noticed before--that is crazy!!!!Jeremy wrote:When was this? Either I missed it, or forgot about it.Jessicado wrote:If they can get Eugene to do great female Chris,I think it might seem a little familiar...
So perhaps he could do Bart?

Hmm...I think once i got used to it i might be ok with him, but its true, he doesn't sound a bit like the real Bart.
But they DEFINATELY should NOT take the rathbones out of the series. I don't think they can be replaced, they have been such a part of the show for so long. It is rediculous that Rodney is still like the same age, but hysterical at the same time. And it provides some continuity through the series so that it isn't a completely new one. So keep the rathbones, not sure about the actor.
Better with a minor character than with some of the others. Like I agree with the change in actors with Mary Barclay, and the change with Whit was ok, but Katrina was rediculously off. She has been SO different. She used to be intelligent and strong and interesting, and now she is just...ditzy. So partially probably the writer's fault, but i also think some of it may be the actress. Personality comes through no matter what the lines are.
We'll see...Ok, i'll stop writing this book now...lol.

Hey guys..I'm pretty sure that was NOT Will Ryan pretending to be Chris. I think they were employing satyr there to poke fun at how many characters Will has done over he years.
That clips is Chris, I'm pretty sure.

A woman's heart should be so hidden in Christ that a man would have to seek Him to find her.

In the past it has taken awhile to adjust to new voices (New Whit, New Katrina) but the new actor has in each case been close in tone and characterization. In this case the new actor is so far off in both as to not even be close to a good enough fit. I have trouble seeing how this even went beyond a test in studio. Please no. If Bart has to be written out then please do it rather than going with this casting. No offense to the new actor is meant. I'm sure there is somewhere in Odyssey for a new character but this IS NOT Bart. I too, didn't have aclue it was Bart until the Electric Palace reference. This sounded closer to Nick Mulligan than Bart Rathbone. Way too young avoice. Tom & Bart both showed Walker's "mature" vocal abilites and tonal characteristics: he had seasoned pipes.
) BTW, I'm a 39 year old dad who's been an Odyssey fan since year one.

Thanks for the welcome. I've turned to your boards for inside information and to read people's opinions for some time but finally crossed the border into town:) I just saw anew Keebler commercial on Tv last night and it sure sounded like Walker's voice. Either they recorded it some time ago or they've found a dead ringer. Hm...
BTW, I'm not sure if others have mentioned this before but the orginal Ernie the Keebler Elf was Parley Baer (Uncle Joe Finnaman (and the Mayor on TAGS, Chester on radio's Gunsmoke) and after his death Walker took over Ernie. It was kind of funny because they really didn't sound alike but they did have that warm seasoned tone.

I don't really like him that much, but I hope I can get used to him.
In fact, when I first heard him, I didn't even think he was Bart. Then he started talking about the electric palace and it clicked.

So you lost your trust,
And you never should have.
No, you never should have.
But don't break your back

But don't answer that.

I think they need to wait on the Rathbones for a while. I just don't see myself warming up to this new Bart...ever. The show will be OK if we don't have the Rathbones. And if they can find a new Bart that actually sounds really good, then it'll be worth not having him around for a while.
