I second this! :protest: ;)

I too live in the beautiful state of Virginia.

That is a really good idea ;) but I changed it to no limit instead. There's no need for the results to be secretive for a poll of this nature, especially not for so long. :) I hope that's okay, g-r-a-c-e - if you want, I could change it so that there would be a short time period where the results would be hidden (perhaps a week) but it raelly isn't necessary. :)

I don't know if there is an actual meaning, is there? I've heard that there's a few various definitions - though most now-a-days just take it mean "I live in Indiana" or something of that sort.

I'm from Indiana as well. Which means we get all four seasons, and I happen to enjoy those seasons quite well.
I looked up the word in the dictionary and this is one of the meanings it came up with; 1. a native or inhabitant of Indiana (used as a nickname).
The other I don't like nearly as well:
2. (usually lowercase) any awkward, unsophisticated person, esp. a rustic.

First is definately best. I live in the Hoosier state! \:D/

well all you need to do is tell where you live, you don't have to pay attention to the poll

I don't live near any of those, not even in the same country. I live on an island of the north end of Vancouver Island, BC. Canada.

I don't know if there is an actual meaning, is there? I've heard that there's a few various definitions - though most now-a-days just take it mean "I live in Indiana" or something of that sort.

Not to drag this WAY offtopic, but if I'm not mistaken there's an Indiana town called "Hoosierville," though I honestly have no idea whether or not the name of the town sparked the standardization of the word "Hoosier" to describe a resident of Indiana, or if it was simply so catchy that local citizens couldn't resist.

Secondly, to muddle the issue a bit more, it is of noteworthy importance that we should be careful to distinguish "Hoosierville" from "Hooverville," (the slang term for the tiny, desolate towns that sprang up during the Great Depression). Then again, as several websites are currently claiming that Hoosierville students - yes, I actually did look this up, - are currently at a handicap as they are currently inundated with Chicago culture, they are unable to assert their own, proud Hoosier identity. For instance, studies claim that the average Hoosiervillian does not know their governor's name, sports team, or even that they live in Indiana. Instead of aspiring to play for the Colts or Pacers, Hoosierville students aspire to play for the Bears or Bulls.

This unacknowledged suburban travesty continues, even as I type. Experts agree that Hoosierville residents should reaffirm their Hoosiervillian identity unless it should behoove them to transform into a modern-day Hooverville. *
Someone has way too much time on their hands, and decided to waste some of that time - is what I call it. ;)
