Misadventures in Odyssey?
The issue I want to bring forward in this topic is that of representing Christ in this place.
We are on an Adventure in Odyssey forum; I don't know how many of you are Christians, but the program Adventures in Odyssey is, so I'm presuming that the majority of you are as well.
We as Christians must remember that what we do is watched by others. And while you may not think anyone is getting on this board and looking at our attitudes towards one another, believe me, they are.
What we do and say here could and very well may be turning people away from Christ! Be aware that many people disregard Christianity because "Christians" are hypocritical and don't follow their own laws.
Worship is more than singing, it is an attitude, and being a Christian is more than going to church on Sundays. The word Christian when broken down literally means Christ like.
I encourage you to represent Christ everywhere you go, including the Town of Odyssey. Our words here, our attitude, are very potent because we lack physical contact. Sarcasm in real life face to face situations can be harmless and fun, when it's presented on a forum it can be taken as an insult. These can be bitter wounds to both the victim, and those who witness it.
Be careful little mouth what you say.
If we as Christians can't pull together and live in harmony amongst one another, what separates us from people who aren't Christian? The Bible says that by our love for one another we shall be known. I encourage you to love one another.
This isn't a time for pointing fingers or dolling out blame. We don't need that. Examine your hearts, see where you have been un-Christian, not like Christ, and then correct your own problem. Jesus taught us that we should take the plank out of our own eyes first. Please follow His teaching.
I have failed to represent Christ here, getting caught up in the heat of things, throwing out my hurtful words to join the others. And what did those words solve? Nothing. They merely add fuel to the fire. Without fuel a fire dies, without words animosity is cured.
I received a letter today from a friend. She is going to college and is having a hard time dealing with all the hostile attitudes towards Christianity and God. The letter informed me that she appreciated me being there for her, just being like a child in God's presence.
When we follow God, we will help everyone around us whether we're aware of it or not. When our focus is on Him we influence those around us for the better. The steps of a righteous man are chosen by God, you cannot go wrong when you are acting in righteousness.
That letter also convicted me deeply. She made some assertions about how I was following Christ despite the world’s negativity. I was deeply convicted because of a hidden sin. I hadn't been following Christ as closely as she had assumed, and for this I was deeply troubled.
Please don't wait until you are at the point of no return, facing oblivion and the shadows, focus your attitude on Christ now, and return to the comforting embrace He gives us.
Dear Father, I pray that I will grow more and more towards You in my attitude here and elsewhere. I pray that You would give me the strength to deny my fleshly desires. Be with this community, and bless us,
Amen.
Again, this isn't a time for finger pointing.

Wow, Lord_Kappa, that was awesome and I totally agree.
I wish everyone on the ToO would pray and keep to this prayer.Dear Father, I pray that I will grow more and more towards You in my attitude here and elsewhere. I pray that You would give me the strength to deny my fleshly desires. Be with this community, and bless us,
Amen.

Xiao... it has to do with all the mudslinging and accusations that have gone on in this election.

JIA (9/13/2008 10:54:27 AM): That long?!
JIA (9/13/2008 10:54:31 AM): IT WAS EONS AGO!
JIA (9/13/2008 10:54:33 AM): *falls over*
WINDSHEAR (9/13/2008 10:54:46 AM): I've already fallen over and died
WINDSHEAR (9/13/2008 10:54:47 AM): I beat you.

I would have posted this in the church... but...
When the election is over I would appreciate this being moved there... if that's possible.
Everyone, this wasn't me writing this... I was under the influence of the Holy Spirit.

A quote from the post in question, "This isn't a time for pointing fingers or dolling out blame." Why would I even want to say it's about mudslinging? Then I have to say who slung mud, which is pointing fingers. If people feel there was mudslinging then they know what this is about. If they don't feel there was mudslinging then they can accept the universal topic in this... topic... which is to represent Christ.
Either way, it was, as Ms. Binghampton has said, a timely word.

It sure looked like youLord_Kappa wrote:Everyone, this wasn't me writing this... I was under the influence of the Holy Spirit.

I appreciate your humility but ignoring the gifts God has given you and simply saying "It's not me, it's only the Lord," isn't a very healthy humility

Regarding your initial post:
The ToO is like a giant cyber facet of real life. Despite the fact that we're Christians, sin still exists in our hearts here just as much as in the real world. Now, in the real world we NEED some sort of accountability. Thankfully the church helps to provide that: a community purposed towards stregnthening each other in Christ.
Sadly, the ToO has nothing of that purposed reminders. I think what Corey did with this place is outstanding but the one thing I always felt lacking was the church (and the "church" forum doesn't cut it). There's no regular accountability, there are no pastors who seek to regularly remind us citizens of the gospel and things like this.
That's why the ToO should NEVER replace real life for someone. Because despite this wonderful topic, there is nothing designed to be regularly like this.
Phew, I miss those old mini essays

The Gospel:
Holy God in love became
Perfect man to bare my blame
On the Cross He took my sin
By His death I live again
Holy God in love became
Perfect man to bare my blame
On the Cross He took my sin
By His death I live again
The Church had a pastor. Before it blew up.
But, I do agree with your post, STRYPER. Definitely some good words said.
This is a message board, and it's not mean to replace real life, or any aspect of it.
