Sooo... How many of you donate blood?

Just a random question!

If there's something on your mind that just doesn't seem to fall into any of the other categories, well, it quite likely belongs inside Joe Finneman's marketplace. Think of it as a general store for general discussions!

Have you ever donated blood?

I have horrible veins and then my blood just doesn't like to leave me...even if I drink tons that day (yes, i tried....) So even if i need blood drawn to check levels in my body of any kind of medicine or anything, they have to go with both hands and try that since my veins are about as bad as any 90 year old out there (they love to collapse, and roll and just generally not give any blood to these vampirical ladies).
man that sounds like a pain to say the lest.

My sister donated blood, once. But then the blood bank kept calling us. They call at least 3 times a day. They're like stalkers.

I probably would give blood, but I don't think that I meet the health or age requirements.

I never have, but I might some day. :)

A lady at our church donates her plasma twice a week to earn a little extra money. :) I had never heard of that before...

I've never done it, for an obvious reason; I see no reason why I wouldn't at some point, though.

I think the last time I had a needle stuck in me was for some vaccine type shot, I think when I was 10 or under. I know I didn't like it then (whatever the injection was, it was pretty painful); I remember feeling just like this: :sniff:

I doubt something like needles would bother me much now, and I have good blood vessels for the occasion; they're very prominent and near the surface (I can freak out my lil bro my hanging my arms off of something and getting my blood vessels to bulge :tongue2:).

I have a fear of needles, and I have horrible veins... I doubt I ever do it... Because anytime a nurse tries to get me with a needle, I end up in pain and with various numbers of holes in my arms. :(

I once laughed while getting my blood drawn. I was like.... 8. I still remember it. ;)

One of my older brothers is totally freaked out about needles. He has what he calls needle phobia. :hilarious:

I've never donated blood because my vesels are extreemly small, deep, hard to find, and thus painful :P

Thread bumpage warning! \:D/

I donated blood today...or at least tried. :( I spent an hour there, got my finger poked, answered all the questions, got the needle in my arm, and then the nurse said that the blood wasn't flowing super well and it kind of hurt where the needle was, and the nurse (who was super nice, which was very much appreciated!) said that it shouldn't pinch, but it did feel like it was pinching a bit, even after she tried to adjust it a bit. They took the needle out then, long before I donated a full bag's worth. So I got the pain and the annoyance, but wasn't able to do any good. :(

My mom went with me because she felt bad about me going by myself, even though she didn't really want to go, but then her thyroid medication made her ineligible to donate, which made her rather happy. ;)

I've donated three times, twice at my school (lots of good food, btw!) and once this summer with a friend. Thankfully, the Bloodsource people don't call me - they just send these postcards in the mail every so often.

Hmmm, 17? I was only 16, but I had to have parental permission. Anyways, I did it this summer for the free pizza, mini golf, and ice cream coupons...my friend couldn't donate, though - not enough iron. The second time I did it, it pinched a little and took a long time, but the other two times were a piece of cake. I actually think shots hurt more. Just don't look when they stick the needle in! ;)
