Building forts, shelters, ect...

yay... >_>

If there's something on your mind that just doesn't seem to fall into any of the other categories, well, it quite likely belongs inside Joe Finneman's marketplace. Think of it as a general store for general discussions!

My friends and I are putting the finishing touches on a wigwam. \:D/
It's working out great. We plan on camping out in it this summer. Do you build stuff like that? Have you in the past?

When we lived in a different house with more woods in the back yard, I used to build entire multi-room "houes" outside. They were made mostly of grape vines hanging from trees and mud and branches... but I would get really into it... I would build little tree-trunk furniture and plant gardens outside the front door and little "spider free" areas to read in... it was a blast. I miss being fun and creative. :(

Wow, that's nice. The most I can say for myself is a crude, survival shelter made at camp.

I know! I got to do all that fun stuff as a kid! Made a survival shelter and a hammock to sleep in during Girl Scouts, helped put up a (pre-made) tee-pee while working at a Boy Scout camp... sounds cheesy, but those of you that have a chance should totally get involved in those. And for older (14+ I think) join the Explorers for high adventure stuff or whatever you want to do. Plus, it's co-ed.Image
Or just go ahead and be creative and make your own fun! Before it's too late (looks out at the suburbs all around her and little trace of blue sky under all the smog). Too little outdoors will make you crazy. Image

That looks really cool, Shad! \:D/ I've never done anything like that before, but it would be kinda fun to do something like that one of these days! :D It'll probably never happen, but I can dream, can't I? ;)

When I was on spring break we had some snow storms, and me and my brother made a little snowhouseigloo type thing. We didn't get a picture though.

And then of course there's the good old fashioned fort in the basement ^_^

I used to LOVE making little forts and houses and stuff both inside and out. \:D/ *sigh* I wish I could still do that...

When we lived where we had woods, Watson and I used to play Indians. O:) I made a little area with a "fire pit" - it was so much fun. I can't remember what we were pretending to be when we decided to dig deep trenches to hide in. :-k Those were pretty cool...no one could see us if we scrunched down in them. Except when we were digging, I think we uncovered a pipe or something...we hurriedly threw some dirt back in to cover it up. :-

I've always thought it would be neat to have a treehouse...

*thinks* Let's see... when we used to live in the woods, I had:

a fort in the hayloft of our old shed...
a fort in our old (unused) dog house...
a teepee in the field back behind the old shed...
2 treehouses, one way high and rather small, one lower down and much bigger...
a fort in a sucluded spot in the woods that me and my mom raked clean and added stump chairs and a fire pit to,
and a fort under an old fallen pinetree waaaay out in the woods.

Ahh, happy days. :D

But than we moved to the city. :(

Bradley and I and our older brother have built some little 'shelter thingamajiggys'. It's been a while since we did that. We even made 'houses' in bushes once.

Way back in our pasture (I live on a dairy farm) there is a little grove of trees, we all (my siblings and I) call "The House", but we have never slept there...at night... We have an awesome hay mow, there's a rope that hangs down from the ceiling that we swing on.

Snowforts are a lot of fun. We used to dig them out of the huge piles of snow that the snow plows made. They got pretty big!
Do any of YOU know how to make hand shadows?

I ought to try to build a wigwam. I probably could do it. I haven't done a lot of forts, but I've tried a few times. My brother's working on a "lean-to" right now, but other than that, we don't have anything.
