Jim Elliot and fellow missionaries

Post by kellyj »

Hi everyone!

I was listening to this progam on my local Christian radio tonight and heard something that i thought would be intresting to share with you.
So I'm sure that some of you have heard of Jim Elliot. 50 years ago this week Jim Elliot and 4 of his friends were in Ecudar (not sure if that's how you spell it). While they were there they were all speared to death. I just was reminded of their incredible faith and how they weren't scared to do God's will even if it meant dying for him. So if you have time this week spend a moment thinking about them and what they did for the Lord.

It's Ecuador, and that's sounds sad. However, they did it for the Lord and you're right about their faith. I'll spend some time to think about them and what they did for God. :)

I read a book about him, I had to translate it into English from Spanish. \:D/

Hey!

Just a side note. If you guys ever get a chance you should read this book called "Through the Gates of Splendor" by Elisabeth Elliot (Jim Elliot's widow). It's a great book. And an amazing tale of what happened down there.
And if you guys are intrested a movie called "The End of the Spear" is coming out on Jan. 20. It is pretty true to the story and what they did for God.
Just felt like God was placing this on my heart to tell you all about it

My sister received the documentary "Beyond the Gates of Splendor" for Christmas. We just watched it the other night. Very good and rather sobering.

By the way, the other men were: Nate Saint, Ed McCully, Roger Youderian, and Pete Fleming.
And He said unto me, My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.

There's another movie that came out recently, and I'm not sure what it's called. It's animated, but at the end it has 30 minutes of documentary abotu the story., I've heard it's really good

When does the End of the Spear come out? Does anybody know? I want to watch it in theaters when it comes out.

It comes out on Jan 20th. I believe that initially it's going to be a limited release, though. I don't want to form an opinion ahead of time, but based strictly on the trailer, it'll probably stay in limited release.

I was surprised to see a trailer on regular TV, as opposed to a Christian station.

End of the Spear gave the role of Nate Saint to gay activist Chad Allen. I would suggest Christians boycott the film. It's not just that Allen is a homosexual, but he played in a feature film as a 'gay' Jesus with disciples and has been on Larry King Live defending and promoting gay rights.

It's very disappointing that Steve Saint and Every Tribe Entertainment allowed this to happen.

I think that even though they gave the role to an actor that is openly gay I think that it is still a very powerful movie that has the potential to lead lots of people to Christ.

That is disappointing about the actor they chose, but I would still like to support the movie. I want the film industry to make good wholesome movies, especially if they involve such Christian themes, so I want to go see it to support it.

yes I know what you mean. It also bothered me that the actor who played Gandalf in LOTR was gay. Yet that is one of my favorite movies.
