Male LU student shot and killed by cop IN Female Res Annex
Tragedy struck my college of Liberty University today.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/edu ... story.html
A male LU student was trespassing at Residential Annex II. This Annex is former motel two miles from campus that LU bought and now uses for a Girls dormitory. A female student called the Liberty University Police Department and told them there was a suspicious character hanging around. An officer arrived and apparently discovered the male student in the lobby. The student apparently attacked the officer with a SLEDGEHAMMER!!! The girls state that there were 6-8 shots fired and the student died.

Hm. Shame. If only he hadn't gone into the dorm in the first place.
I feel sorry for the person who shot him because she's going to get a lot of flak and probably fired.

I don't think he/she will. The cop was attacked by the student and went to the hospital for treatment. I should also mention that this happened a 4am!

A weapon was discharged. Based on recent current events and that fact alone, something's gonna go down. To quote a movie: "Someone's gotta go to prison, Ben." (metaphorically speaking about how punishment has to be imputed on someone.)

It is looking more and more like this was a premeditated "suicide by cop."

Yeah, I think cops can get away with shooting someone who is attacking them with a deadly weapon still.

Sorry, I thought I was clear. Let me clarify this.bookworm wrote:For doing her job?Whitty Whit wrote:I feel sorry for the person who shot him because she's going to get a lot of flak and probably fired.
I applaud her for doing her job. I appreciate what she did. I just feel sorry for her because she is most probably going to get in some sort of trouble.

Why is she going to get in trouble for doing her job?

I get what you mean, Whitty. Unfortunately, even the justified use of firearms can cause a huge political upheaval, especially if it turns out that somebody involved in the incident is part of a politically correct (or politically incorrect) segment of society. Hopefully in this case everything will be resolved in an appropriate manner.

It sounds like justified use of force to me - protecting yourself or someone else. There should be no negative consequences from the actions of the officer. The end result was sad for sure, and it'll be a tough recovery for the officer, but there shouldn't be any legal issues arising, particularly since the officer has injuries as well.
I doubt the officer involved will have that much problem.

I wish George Zimmerman had been there to help.

No thanks, Liberty does not need the type of media frenzy he would bring. The Top Crusader wrote:I wish George Zimmerman had been there to help.
