This I strongly, strongly disagree with. Donald Sutherland is freaky, stern and powerful-looking in a way that nails the role of Snow. I think by the third film, you will see what a great casting decision that was.
I say he's too old. In Catching Fire, Katniss clearly states that he was "Not old looking, but aged." (I'm not entirely sure if I quoted that verbatim, but it's close.)

Yes, old and fat and messy-looking. He should have been clean shaven, for one.

He was creepy though. But I don't think Snow was supposed to have an exceptionally creepy appearance. I pictured him as more non-descript, even friendly looking, yet with an overhanging creepiness exuding from him. Also, he didn't say nearly enough, imo.

Messy-looking and yet clean shaven? That's a direct contradiction.

He talked 3x more times in this movie than he did in the book. Are you trying to be unpleaseable?

Meanwhile, my youth pastor liked someone's post on Facebook that said, "WHY on earth would someone desire to watch such a thing as Hunger Games?!" It went on to trash the the series and ended with, "God have mercy." My youth pastor likes this and he probably went home to destroy some people in Modern Warfare after church. :- I hope I get to have a conversation with him about it one day.

You can have no facial hair whatsoever and still be messy. ;)

Yes, but he thinks the character should've been more messy-looking and yet he's complaining that he had a beard...? :noway:

Gotta love how I always end up discussing facial hair. :(

So beards are messy? If groomed right.. I mean, if it was only half grown beard, that would come across as 'messy'. But a full beard, not necessarily. He just looked more important with it. O:)

....no, I was saying he looked messy-looking but I would've preferred him to be clean-shaven. ;)

I'm putting this in this topic... since it is specifically about The Hunger Games movie, and not discussion of the series.

The Hunger Games made $152,535,747 on its first weekend.
In case you don't know much about movie grosses, that's INSANE. It's the third most EVER. That is more than every single Twilight movie, all the Shrek films, Pirates of the Caribbean, Star Wars, and 7 out of 8 of the Harry Potter films. (The final Harry Potter film made a lot of money because it could charge more on tickets; due to 3D. The first Hunger Games movie has sold more tickets than the final Harry Potter movie!) The only movies that have made more by its third day are the concluding Harry Potter movie and The Dark Knight. :o

We can finally settle one argument: what's more popular, Harry Potter or Twilight? The answer is The Hunger Games.

Well, I went to see the movie tonight. After months of eager expectation, I was horribly disappointed. Not by the movie, what I saw of it looked fantastic, and I am so buying it on DVD. No, it was the dozen eejits in the back row that talked and laughed and snorted and squealed their way through the entire movie. Because of their noise, I missed all the dialogue between Katniss and Prim, Katniss and Gale, Katniss and Rue
(laughing uproariously during Rue's death probably bugged me the most)
and Katniss and Peeta of course. I was so frustrated I actually yelled "Shut-up" during the movie, and I wasn't the only one. Twice someone got up to complain. I think the usher guy gave them a warning or something, because they quietened down for like ten minutes after
Foxface died
but it wasn't long before they started up again.

After the movie was over, I saw that the trouble makers couldn't be over 11 or 12. They shouldn't have even been at the movie, and I can't get over parents who would actually pay money to allow their kids to sit there and spoil the movie for everyone else. It made me so angry and sad at the same time. I still wish they had got thrown out though. If I wasn't so shy, and you could get away with here, I would have asked for my money back.

Ok, got that off my chest.

The movie looked really true to the book, though the ending was perhaps too abrupt. I don't recall anything important being left out. As has been mentioned already, the shaky camera was a tad overdone at the beginning. I found the first ten minutes or so a bit disorientating. Two of the friends I was with hadn't read the book, and complained of being confused as to what was going on. That was about all the negative points I noticed. What I loved was
-The Reaping; Effie was fantastic
-Prim's scream; very gut-wrenching
-Katniss and Peeta's fire costumes, which I was afraid would be tacky
-Ditto Katniss' Interview Dress
-Foxface; she looked exactly as I imagined her
-The violence of the games was well dealt with. I am a total wimp when it comes to gore
-The mockinjay whistle; it just struck me as nicely done. When she whistles it the second time, it's slightly more hesitant, and the mockingjays pick that up. :shrugs: made it more realistic, methinks
-Peeta's disguise
-The muttations; not at all how I imagined them, but well done all the same
-The nightlock berries scene; well acted I thought
-Seneca Crane's scene at the end; so chilling, and a foretaste of what's to come I thought

Overall, I think I would have really enjoyed this movie. I'll think twice about seeing a movie I really want to see in that cinema again, though.
