Why anyone would study Latin in the first place amazes me ;).

I'm studying it because I think it will help me a lot with English.

Besides, who wants to learn a useful language? The more obscure, the better is what I say. Latin isn't really obscure though. Just dead. That's all. \:D/

*tragic. :noway:
No, it's definitely "tragical." Sounds better, don't you think? \:D/

I didn't really *study* Latin. I just took a few courses on Latin roots. Which helped me immensely in spelling Spanish. They're deliciously alike, Spanish and Latin. \:D/

Well, Stubborn, you had said that you get regular American (presumably you meant United States spoken English) phrases wrong, so I just assumed you didn't know exactly how to modify the word tragic properly...

My Cousin, My Bible Teacher, Mr. Perrin, knows Latin.. but then again, he is my BIBLE teacher, and all that...

I think Spanish helps you understand English the most... because either their are cognates, or it just helps you understand roots and the words themselves and their meanings. It is cool learning that as I go through Spanish class this year. We've learned a lot in a quarter. Wow... this quarter flew! It ends next Friday! W00t! One more quarter of English Lit and NW History. Next semester: Health and European Lit! YEAH FOR KAYLA!

I know.. aren't I random?

I believe, along with my textbook's publisher, that Latin would give an English speaker a better understanding of the etymology of many English words. Also, because of the French influence on the English court in the Middle Ages, French is also more important to English development than Spanish. When William I, Duke of Normandy (the Normans were actually relocated Vikings and Danes) took over England in AD 1066, French became the official language of Angle-land.

Did you know that the word republic comes from the French république? République comes from two Latin words: res, which means thing, and publica which means public.

I think that all languages have contributed in English. And all languages. They are all languages. THey had to start somehow. From one other language, or multiple, they all are derived from something. Not that I know Latin... or care...

I just think, in my own opnion, that Spanish helps me more understand my native language. I don't know Latin, nor does my English class help me understand it, so, well, I can't say from my own experience. Maybe yours. But that is you.

Man... if only I'd learned Spanish a long time ago... It wouldn't be as challenging as it is now. But, then again, Tori has been to Spain, and there is a different dialect of Spanish there from what she is learning now... God be with her and her family right now... :(

Now let's get off of languages. What's your opinion on the New Star Trek movie? I have never really seen Star Trek before but I was wondering if anybody was gonna see the new movie...

Well, whaddya know. More than one post per day in the Lounge. \:D/

Some days, there may be even as many as seven whole posts!
So you lost your trust,
And you never should have.
No, you never should have.
But don't break your back
If you ever see this,
But don't answer that.
In a bullet proof vest
With the windows all closed,
I'll be doing my best
I'll see you soon.

As in, "I haven't posted once since you left"?

I'm pensively thoughtful at the moment, JED, thank you.
