Hymns and otherwise

Post by Aelwyn »

Here's a topic to post titles or lyrics your favorite hymns or other Christian songs.

Here's a couple of mine:

Hymns: Rise My Soul, Behold Tis Jesus
Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing
O Love That Wilt not Let me Go

Other: My King's Apparel (I might post the words for this later)
Above All
Aleep in the Light (?) (author: Keith Green)

And I have many other favorites. :D

I don't really do hymns so much... I know bits and pieces. What I do know, In the Garden and It Is Well.

But I can't possibly list all my favorite worship songs... our repetoire at my church (especially since I'm a worship leader) is just too big.

Mandy
Music is my life. God's given me gifts, and I like to use them.
Spirit now lead me, take me where You will
I long to adore You, reveal Yourself to me
My cry is to please You, so have Your way in me
Completely to bring glory to Your Name

I love a ton of songs... O:)

Amazing Love

My Lord, what love is this,
that paid, so dearly,
that I, the guilty one
may go free.

Amazing love, what sacrifice,
the Son of God, given for me,
my debt He paid and my death he died,
that I, might live.

And so, they watched Him die,
despised, rejected,
but oh, the blood He shed,
flowed for me.

Amazing love, what sacrifice,
the Son of God, given for me,
my debt He paid and my death he died,
that I, might live.

And now, this love of Christ,
shall flow like rivers,
so come, wash your guilt away,
live again.

This isn't about my favorite hymns, but it is about hymns..

Last night my church had a joint hymn-sing with our sister church. Actully my church is an outreach of that church, and we just started meeting 2 sundays ago. Anyway, It was fun because the building is pretty small so we were all packed in there. It was a blast. \:D/

As the Dear is my favorite hymn and favorite song. Other than that I can't really choose a favorite traditional hymn.

Here are the lyrics to My King's Apparel:

The crown that my King wore was made of thorns.
His jewels were bright rubies of blood.
His royal apparel designed with a scourge.
Making bright crimson stripes on His Holy train.

And Oh---, He wore it so well
My King's apparel He wore it so well
And Oh---, He wore it so well
My King's apparel He wore it so well

His jewelry was nails in His hands and His feet.
No throne He hung on a sinful tree.
His royal carpet was blood in the sand.
"Crucify Jesus!" we sinners demand.

And Oh---, He wore it so well
My King's apparel He wore it so well
And Oh---, He wore it so well
My King's Apparel He wore it so well

His life for the sinner He willingly gave.
They lay my Savior in a cold dark cave.
But Jesus was righteous, was never death's slave.
My Almighty King conquered death and the grave.

And Oh---, He wore it so well
My King's apparel He wore it so well
And Oh---, He wore it so well
My King's Apparel He wore it so well

I really like A Mighty Fortress is our God.

I think this is what you're looking for, poWerbOy! :D Yay for Google!
Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to take Him at His word;
Just to rest upon His promise,
Just to know "Thus saith the Lord"

####Chorus:

Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him!
How I've proved Himo'er and o'er!
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!
O for grace to trust Him more!

O how sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to trust His cleansing blood;
Just in simple faith to plunge me
"Neath the healing, cleansing flood!

####

Yes, 'tis sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just from sin and self to cease;
Just from Jesus simply taking
Life and rest, and joy and peace.

####

I'm so glad I learned to trust Him,
Precious Jesus, saviour, friend;
And I know that He is with me,
Will be with me to the end.

Lord, Whose Love in Humble Service

Lord, whose love in humble service
bore the weight of human need,
who upon the cross, forsaken,
worked your mercy's perfect deed;
we, your servants, bring the worship
not of voice alone, but heart,
consecrating to your purpose
every gift which you impart.

Still your children wander homeless,
still the hungry cry for bread.
Still the captives long for freedom,
still in grief we mourn our dead.
As you, Lord, in deep compassion,
healed the sick and freed the soul,
by your Spirit send your power
to our world to make it whole.

As we worship, grant us vision,
till your love's revealing light
in its height and depth and greatness
dawns upon our quickened sight,
making known the needs and burdens
your compassion bids us bear,
stirring us to ardent service,
your abundant life to share.

I love this song. I can play it by ear on my violin; it's my favourite warm-up song.

Be Unto Thy Name

We are a moment, You are forever
Lord of the Ages, God before time
We are a vapor, You are eternal
Love everlasting, reigning on high

Chorus:
Holy, holy, Lord God Almighty
Worthy is the Lamb Who was slain
Highest praises, honor and glory
Be unto Your name, be unto Your name

We are the broken, You are the healer
Jesus, Redeemer, mighty to save
You are the love song we'll sing forever
Bowing before You, blessing Your name
they may be copper,
annoying little coins! but,
they might be giants.

With great power comes great responsibility.

It is good to praise the Lord, and make
music to your name, Yahweh Most High.
