A new drive-thru only Taco Bell just opened which completely redesigns the fast food model.
When I first heard about this place back when it was being built I thought it was going to somehow be an entirely automated system because they were emphasizing the process being completely contactless, but that isn't the case. There are people operating this location as usual, you just never interact with them. The focus here is on innovating the food delivery process to maximize the efficiency of use of their physical space. There's some very interesting analysis of this subject in this video.
On that subject of fast food restaurants moving toward automation though, see the links in the below article for examples of how use of remote workers, artificial intelligence, and robotics are looking to fundamentally alter the industry. Pretty interesting stuff.
