Look at me not lurking!

Here's the place for discussing music, plays, YouTube videos, and any other media that doesn't quite fit in the other sections of Harlequin Theatre.

Podcasts?

Post by Pirate Oriana »

So, I'm a big fan of podcasts. They're great to play in the background at work, while cooking dinner, etc. HOWEVER several of my go-to podcasts have perished, or are updating slower than I listen. :- So I need some new ones to fill the void!

Some that I already have on my list are:
1.) Stuff You Missed in History Class
2.) Emperors of Rome
3.) The History Chicks
4.) Let's Talk (from the Gospel Coalition)
5.) Thirty Minutes with The Perrys
6.) Sneak Attack (R.I.P.)
7.) DnD RAW

That's basically the spectrum of my taste. I like to keep things reasonably PG and I prefer the conversational format of at least two hosts/participants. Bonus points if at least one of them is a woman. Probably sexist, :shame: but I've found that I'm just a bit more likely to listen if it's not an entirely male cast.

Please proceed to throw podcasts at my face.

Sorry, no recommendations. I like audio stuff so I always think that I should be a podcast fan but I just never really got into them. I think it's partly because I already have access to enough stuff to fill my existing time. There is so much content out there and I hear good things, so maybe one of these days I'll look at your list and give one a try!

Yeah, I kind of have a similar experience with audio books. I feel like they scratch a similar itch for most people, but they never really appealed to me. I'm also pretty much over the formula and melodrama of most of today's t.v. shows, so podcasts are pretty much all I have left. 🙈

I love podcasts! I don't know if my tastes will align with yours, but here's what I'm listening to these days. (BTW- the majority of these are marked explicit. IDK what the average ToOer's stance on language/mature topics are these days.)

1) Astonishing Legends: In-depth nerdy discussions about cryptids, the paranormal, and history. Very long. VERY nerdy. Sometimes spooky!

2) Eleventylife: Conversations about the music industry, spirituality, and mental health from an artist who used to be in the Christian music scene.

3) Erin Is The Funny One: YouTuber Jacksfilms and his wife's show.

4) Magnified Pod: Really really in-depth discussions about 90s Christian Punk albums.

5) The Pickle & Boot Shoppe: Singers from two 90s Christian ska bands mostly talk about poop and being divorced but also sometimes weird stories from being in 90s Christian ska bands.

6) Reply All: Insanely good show about all things internet culture, tech support, and storytelling. If that doesn't sound interesting, give it a shot. It's more fun than it sounds.

7) The Rise and Fall of Mars Hill: Christianity Today breaks down the history of Mark Driscoll's ill-fated megachurch.

8) Ear Biscuits: Rhett and Link talk about mostly rich white guy things but there's also some really good episodes.

9) The Prophetic Imagination Station: Christian pop culture analyzed through the lenses of attachment psychology and progressive Christianity. Lots of Odyssey content!

10) Good Christian Fun: Christian pop culture discussed extremely irreverently. Always hilarious.

A couple ones I listen to regularly are:
Talking Beasts- a podcast about the Narnia books and their adaptations https://www.narniaweb.com/cat/podcast/ The seasons are a little irregular but it normally updates twice a month during the season.
Blast Points- a pretty family friendly Star Wars podcast. It can get really silly sometimes, but it's always positive and nerdy. Sometimes a little too nerdy with star wars behind the scenes stuff. :D https://blastpointspodcast.com/

Occasionally I'll listen to:
Pints with Jack- a podcast about C.S. Lewis books. I've only listened to a few of these so far, but I mostly enjoyed them. Sometimes the deeper discussions make my brain hurt. Most of the hosts are British. https://www.pintswithjack.com/audio/

Tell ya Later- a podcast from Katie Leigh and Will Ryan (Connie and Eugene's voice actors) https://www.youtube.com/c/TellYaLater/videos Pretty fun, but I personally have trouble paying attention if I try to listen to this while doing something else. I'm at episode 11 so far.

Hank The Cowdog podcast. Really more of an abridged audiobook than a podcast. It came out last year and they did the story of Hank #11: Lost in the Dark Unchanted Forest. Unfortunately, they only did one book. Matthew McConaughey fit pretty well as the voice of Hank. I've been a huge fan of Hank the Cowdog books ever since I was a little kid and this "podcast" was short but it delivered. https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cH ... eVpSN3Zqdg

In the Market with Janet Parshall. Not really a podcast either, more of a radio program. It tends to talk about the news and current issues from a christian (and fairly conservative) perspective. I always like their bible QnA programs. https://www.moodyradio.org/programs/in- ... -parshall/

Gaither Homecoming Radio- Another radio program, this time an hour long program with selections of gospel music. I liked to listen to this one more for the goofy in between stuff than the actual music. Sadly, they stopped making new ones after the guy who wrote the scripts and stuff died last year. http://www.homecomingmusic.net/

Most of my podcast intake is about wrestling, with a little AIO sprinkled in.

I do love southern gospel music though.

I want to check out some of the ones Steve mentioned! \:D/

I regularly listen to:

What Happened When? with Tony Schiavone--mostly about old NWA and WCW stuff, but he's currently an AEW commentator so they touch on current stuff, too.

The Weekly Planet--pop culture stuff, mainly comic book movies but they'll get into other typical nerdy things like Star Wars and such.

83 Weeks with Eric Bischoff--another wrestling podcast, mostly about WCW but occasionally TNA or other things. \:D/

Cinemassacre Podcast--fairly new, mostly about movies and games and music and cryptozoology thus far.

The Holy Post--the Vegetales guy and a bald guy and an interchangeable token female talk about current events pertaining to evangelicals and butt news.

IYH Wrestling Radio--the greatest pro wrestling podcast in existence

Voxology--covers different stuff, theology, deconstructing modern evangelicalism, etc.

The Completely Unnecessary Podcast--emphasis on video games but sometimes other pop cultury things

Steve and Larson's Going in RAW! --some news but mostly recaps of wrestling shows, so I don't have to actually watch them

Player One Podcast--probably my favorite video game related one. Talk some video game news and about what hey are currently playing, etc.

Retronauts--focus on one particular old game or old video game series for an episode.

...I'm probably forgetting some stuff, but those are basically all the ones that I listen to consistently. There are others that I listen to occasionally depending on the topic, etc.
