I think they are, yeah. I believe that they're pork cracklings/fried pork skin or something. They sound vile, I've never had them, and I've never met anybody who has; to me, they've always been that weird snack available at the gas station that nobody ever actually buys.

^This. I've had them, and they don't taste good. They make different flavors, but I feel like they all have the same taste under that flavor. They are a fun texture to eat.. And that is all I will give them, BECAUSE THEY DON'T TASTE GOOD. :x

Think about it...

FRIED.

PIG.

SKIN.

>_<

Yeah when I was a kid I assumed they were just called "pork rinds" for no good reason, or like maybe it was something that was fried in bacon grease or something--but I always thought they were made out of the same material as like cheese puffs or something.

But I eventually learned the truth. :(

Huh, people in Northern Mexico eat this with hot sauce on top. It's a very popular snack. I used to eat it as a kid on our trips into Mexico to visit family but didn't care much for it as I got older.

Actually, Puerto Ricans have something similar. Every Thanksgiving when I make my pernil (a skin-on pork shoulder marinated for 2 days then slow-roasted), I will finish up the last step by broiling it so the skin gets crispy. I can't remember the name for when the skin is served separately.

But it isn't fried. Why do people do that?
