I'm genuinely glad you're here Marvin, you were a really important part of the community to me when I was integrating back in from my hiatus.

What? Seven years?
I remember when Marvin was just an AIO-loving kid, and now he's a seven-year veteran of the ToO!

Yes, "were", the sentence was referring to a past event. It doesn't infer you have ceased being an important part of the community to me. If I had said 'you were only important when', but I didn't, I was merely highlighting that specific time, not exclusively isolating it from the present. For shame, self proclaimed grammar nazi.

Still, after seven years, one should assume that I am usually being sarcastic

One could also assume my reaction was more facetious than serious.

Except, based on past experiences, the latter is more likely to be accurate than the former

Is that sarcastic as well?
The vast majority of times I make one of those deadpan responses I realize full well it's an overreaction. I thought people knew that.
In this particular instance of course I was aware you were making a joke, I've known you for years Marvin
, I was playing along by responding as if it was serious even though I knew it wasn't. Is that not the reaction you desired? It seems less fun to, just because we know a remark is only sarcasm, ignore it or respond with a mere 'Ha, good one.'
