Some history for the newbies:
The first $10 Day was on Halloween of 2005 and wasn’t originally planned to be an annual event. But then Shadowpaw decided to use it in an attempt to set a new user record and after its great success it was made a yearly tradition.

Not exactly. It was made as a way to allow users to get more money, as a special treat. Of course the way to do that was to make more posts, so that was the effect, but the direct intent was not about the posts themselves. Until, perhaps, when the idea to try setting the user record was thought of. Technically that was only concerned with the number of users online, they didn't have to be posting, but they probably would be.

Wow, this is the first time I've actually been able to be on today. I'd forgotten this is a thing.
