Lotr and Narnia vrs Harry Potter

Post by Blitz »

The most famous fantasy books now to fight it out. Will the slightly allegrical ones win out or will the more umm weird ones win out?
(Twilight has been removed)

Why is Twilight involved in this? it's not nearly as amazing as the other three are.

Umm...you realize no one will vote for the HP option because Twilight is there, right? I don't mean to imply anything, but this seems pretty stilted. I wouldn't call Twilight a book simply because to do so is to give it far more credit than it deserves, as I hardly believe it can be considered a work of literature.

Hahaha this is going to be a landslide. \:D/

Narnia and Twilight should've been paired together.

I'm voting for Narnia and Harry Potter. Twilight is not a favorite of mine and never will be.

I voted for Harry Potter. Inasmuch as I like Narnia and Lotr, I've only seen the Lotr movies. As for Narnia, I have read the books, heard the focus on the family radio theatre of it and watched the movies (even some of the cheesy 80s ones). However, it's been awhile, so Harry Potter it is; which I have both seen the movies and read the books more recently.

(incidentally, while I think Twilight cannot compare to the other three, I will admit to it being a kind of guilty pleasure of mine (more the movies than the books). I also don't think it was completely devoid of any redemptive value. But that's another story for another time)

Well I am just saying which is the best books or movies. I actually preferred the movies of Lotr over the books.

Why do Lord of the Rings and The Chronicles of Narnia share one option?

Being a book doesn't make something literature.

Narnia, LotR, and Harry Potter are all great works of literature that are or will someday be recognized as classics and forced upon unsuspecting high school English students everywhere. Twilight is emotional porn for women. It's as simple as that. A romance novel that somehow became mega popular.

My mistake. I meant "a book on the level of the three books mentioned here".

//nodnod What was Harry's sacrifice and subsequent resurrection and protection of the fighters at Hogwarts, if not at least something of a Messianic allegory? Besides, from what I understand, Tolkein never really intended for Lord of the Rings to be an allegory, although I may be wrong on that.

You are correct.
