Contemporary Christian music suggestions
To those who listen to a lot of Contemporary Christian music, I need your help!
I am interested in trying out some CC artists but haven't listened to CC music for like...12 years so I really have no idea where to start. I'm kind of picky about that music, too. The main reason I stopped listening was just because I found a lot of it to be flat and cheesy.
Which is to say, I'd like artist, album
or song suggestions that fall within a couple of parameters:
A) I enjoy songs that are a little more subtle than most worship songs you might sing in church. Needtobreathe is a good example for that, as well as Flyleaf (lyrical content alone. Style of music itself is a bit heavy for my taste.)
B) I prefer songs that are focused more towards God rather than just Jesus.
SUGGESTIONS, GO!

Sent By Ravens, Our Graceful Words, and I can't remember the other album title. <-- They're rock, but not so much as Flyleaf.
Falling Up! has some pretty cool stuff.... but again, I don't remember details.
...this is really hard to do without my laptop and iTunes to look through. >_> Heh. But THERE'S A START... ish.

You might try Audrey Assad. Her album "The House You're Building" is fantastic.
Another suggestion would be Chris and Conrad, particularly their songs "Buried Alive", "Who I Really Am", and "I'm at Home".
Annnd, Jon Foreman of Switchfoot has some EP's that are pretty awesome.

My first suggestion is to not listen to CCM music at all...

Hey that's what I've been doing for the last 12 years. Time to switch it up.Steve wrote:My first suggestion is to not listen to CCM music at all...
I could probably go for it. The main reason I dislike mainstream rap is the lyrical content so I'm sure Christian rap could be something I can get into.Musical Shutterbug wrote: Kait, do you like Christian rap?

Yeah I'll second Relient K. I haven't liked their newer stuff as well but MmHmm and Five Score and Seven Years ago are both pretty full of win. Before and after that they have some good songs here and there, but those are the most solid entire albums I think.
Also, while a lot of my like for dc Talk I'm sure comes from nostalgia, and now their older stuff sounds silly... I still think their last regular album, Supernatural, is pretty solid, even at 14 years old now.

Ooh, I agree with all of these except Falling Up (Which I haven't heard) All of these are great bands to try out Kait.

I've been getting into their albums "Fangs!" and "Your Sparkling Death Cometh" lately. I love their abstract, poetic style.Taps wrote:Amethystic wrote:House of Heroes

Lecrae is my recommendation for that, especially if you like the pounding bass/general BGM quality of rap but can't stand the filthy lyrics. "High", "I'm A Saint", and "Go Hard" are great.Kait wrote:I could probably go for it. TobyMac is a good combination of rock and hip-hop, and the lyrics to his songs are absolutely spot on. He's a good artist and a good person, both of which show clearly in his music.
"Death's got an Invisibility Cloak?" "So he can sneak up on people. Sometimes he gets bored of running at them, flapping his arms and shrieking..."
"And now the spinning. Thank you for nothing, you useless reptile."
"It unscrews the other way."

Yes. TobyMac.
If you like metal, you should try Skillet or Oh Sleeper.

Fireflight is NOT metal. They're barely even good for a rock song!Ginny Weasley wrote:Fireflight is great for metal.
