The Frankenstein-monsteresque option. I would use it to cause pandemonium in places where I would be recording for the purpose of observation of reactions.

I'd become Mrs. Draten (sp???) in The Man Who Knew Too Much, and I'd be nice and let the kidnapped person go and try and help the good guys stop the plot to kill someone.
