His Dark Materials

(gasp!) if I didn't think so before I do now....

"Books? You want books?! Ha! We've got books on hairy otters, on onions and on mars! All the fungus you could care for, plus, three triple zillion stars. We've got books on flossing teeth, plus three books on tossing sheep. If we spent our lives just counting books, we'd never get to sleep!" -Leopold the Librarian ("The Great Wishy Woz")

His Dark Materials

Post by jasonjannajerryjohn »

I really love this series, at first I was bored with it, but now I love it so much. It's really exciting, I'm nearly finished with the Subtle Knife. Just post your wonderful little comments here, most likely against His Dark Materials and Philip Pullman, but who knows, mabye there is a fan here besides me. lol

Haven't read the series yet. Due to the amount of attention it's gotten in the past doing so is on my to-do-list just so I know what I'm talking about when it comes up in conversation. From what I know of Pullman though, I probably wouldn't get along with him were I to meet him ;)

I've had the Golden compass for forever, but haven't finished it yet. Good story...and if he's trying to be overtly anti-God, he's not doing a good job yet. I've heard that the main bad guy's name in later books is Yahweh? If that's true, that's rediculous.

Using God's personal name? Atheists are getting extreme. Militant.

lol, you haven't even finished the first book yet? It gets better as you go along, and it does get more religious as the books go on. They later call "God" the "Authority."

they also claim that God is not, in fact, God, but that He was simply the first angel, and that he claimed he created all the rest (but really didn't).

Satan, of course, is the enlightened one who finally realizes the duplicity and revolts. How very militant.

Phillp Pullman's Website wrote:His Dark Materials seems to be against organised religion. Do you believe in God?

I don't know whether there's a God or not. Nobody does, no matter what they say. I think it's perfectly possible to explain how the universe came about without bringing God into it, but I don't know everything, and there may well be a God somewhere, hiding away.

Actually, if he is keeping out of sight, it's because he's ashamed of his followers and all the cruelty and ignorance they're responsible for promoting in his name. If I were him, I'd want nothing to do with them.

I'm sorry, Phil! :mecry:

If you truly agree with Mr. Pullman about the church, then you haven't met much of the church. ;)

Don't judge "THE CHURCH" by the American church. And don't judge the American church by the few CHristians who make it into the news, etc.

Christians the world over are dying to self and living for Christ everyday. And literally dying for Christ as well.
