Good Historical Movies

Hey all, I need some ideas for good historical movies. Historical meaning along the lines of 'Julius Caesar,' 'Joan of Arc,' 'Braveheart,' and 'Dances With Wolves'. My favorite time period to watch is thousands of years ago all the way up until the Crusades, however I also like some more modern eras as well. I don't care about sexual content, graphic violence, and language- we purchased ClearPlay, so all of it will be cut out. I just want good story lines and honorable characters

It isn't as old as you prefer but The Patriot is one of my favorite films of all time! $\:D/$ Also Seven Samuria is pretty cool. And Jesus Christ, Superstar!

The only historical movies in my favorites list are from a much more modern era: Schindler's List, Saving Private Ryan, and Apollo 13. I've heard Amistad is good, I really want to see Ben Hur after reading the book and hearing the radio theatre version, and I would also recommend the Mel Gibson version of Hamlet (even though it's fiction).

Remember, she did say GOOD Historical movies.
The Patriot was sooo historically wrong, it wasn't funny....

A good one... I don't know if you'd consider this one, but Gettysburg was a good one. I've seen it like... 3 times?

I can't think of anything that are historically correct or good... Gettysburg was pretty good on both parts...

Glory was a good historical movie. It had its innacuracies but all in all it was historical.

I thought you liked Patriot DAM. Since it had Heath Ledger and all...

For historical accuracy and realistic portrayal, I'd recommend Mel Brooks's History of the World Part I.

Although it has many historical flaws, Saving Private Ryan is a masterpiece.

I liked it, but I never said it was historically accurate. I mean, COME ON! I can tell you one thing off the top of my head.. it wasn't bunker hill, it was breed's hill! See, I'm my sister, the history nut of the family!

Oh, I thought of... um... Glory. BUt, well, I only started watching it on Wednesday when making Hardtac in US History. We get to eat what we made tomorrow! I'm soo happy! Plus watch the rest of the movie.. Mindy claims to have seen it more than twice...

I also love historical movies. Here are some of my favorites (and since I have Top's permission, I'll include the ones that aren't accurately historical, they're just set in a historic time period. In other words, some of these will be tongue in cheek. I assume you all will be able to tell the difference.) For the sake of clarity, I'll also tell which part of history they're from.
Amazing Grace - 1800's, England

The Basket - WWI, America
Beauty and the Beast - 1700's, France
Braveheart - 1300's, Scotland
Forrest Gump - 50's, 60's, and 70's, America
Gods and Generals - Civil War, America
Hamlet (with Mel Gibson) - unspecified medieval times, Denmark
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe - WWII, England
Little Women - 1800's, America
The Muppet Christmas Carol - Victorian England
Once Upon a Time...When We Were Colored - 50's and 60's, America
The Patriot - Revolutionary War, America
Pride & Prejudice - 1800's, England
The Prince of Egypt - A long time ago?, Egypt
The Remains of the Day - 1930's, England

I don't think Luther was all that accurate. He really ddin't protray Luther as he was. Luther was a great man but he was troubled, anti semitic man. I think they could have been more accurate. I have some more proof but it is late so I can get some more tommorow.
