What?

If there's something on your mind that just doesn't seem to fall into any of the other categories, well, it quite likely belongs inside Joe Finneman's marketplace. Think of it as a general store for general discussions!

Write a story about a boy...and a girl...who fall in love and live happily ever after! And put a couple bad guys in there to try and stop them. \:D/

Her idea sounds more like an action-adventure one to me! \:D/ Forbidden love is more like the Romeo and Juliet star-crossed lovers thing, isn't it? This idea suggests more of a mystery than a forbidden love story, at least in my opinion. I guess it would depend on what the bad guys did. Besides, people still write stories like that because people still like to read them, especially if somebody comes up with a way to make them somewhat original. :D

Here's a good one. How about you write about an old man who owns a soda shop in a small town and gives kids advice.

Actually...no. ;) The Bible is true, and you shouldn't mess with it in some ways, but stories like the Passages series that Paul McCusker wrote are a good example of a creative way that a familiar Bible story can be given a "twist" and made into something that can teach without a Sunday School-style retelling. History is made up of facts, so a historical story can't change the dates of when an event happened, but that doesn't mean that there aren't lots of other interesting things to tell about the event. One series that does this is the Trailblazer books by Dave and Neta Jackson, who write a story with a figure from Christian history as one of the characters, but make the main character a fictional child who somehow interacts with the historical figure. I read a number of those books when I was younger and definitely remembered the historical era and the people better than just reading a list of facts about them!

So there you have it - if somebody wants to write creatively involving either history or the Bible, they have my official approval. ;)
