Cardinals vs. Tigers
I now humbly proclaim that the Cardinals are winning 7-1 in game 1 of the WS, and it is now the bottom of the 9th.
Thank you.
Thank you.

How dare I call this love and not bear my cross to the end.
This is huge. Really, really huge.
All week I was saying that the Tigers would sweep whoever they faced. Once we found out that the Cardinals' worst pitcher would start game one against a healthy Verlander, I knew it was a shoe in. The Cardinals only chance was to build on what little momentum they had and take game one. If the Cards were able to do that, I said, we might have a series. But with all the good arms still resting from the Mets' series, the chances of Reyes taming the Tigers, or anyone not named Pujols contributing, was slim.
Game time. Verlander looks spectacular in the first inning with an exuberant crowd behind him. The Tigers, shaking off all doubts that they'd be rusty, strike first in the bottom of the first with timely hits. Everything still pointed to Tiger Domination.
until....
In the top of the second, the quiet, slumping Scott Rolen hits a high fastball (the pitch he couldn't hit to save his life and was targeted as his "weak spot") into the crowd for a solo shot to tie the game. All of a sudden the air was let out of the park and momentum lurched suddenly to a standstill. Next inning the cards rally for more runs climaxing with a Pujols homer. The game was over. The series is now completely different all because Scott Rolen woke up and hit his first career World Series home run.
Before, the Tigers smelled a sweep. After Rolen, they're in for a dogfight.

The Gospel:
Holy God in love became
Perfect man to bare my blame
On the Cross He took my sin
By His death I live again

Perfect man to bare my blame
On the Cross He took my sin
By His death I live again

Alas, the Cardinals had a chance to break the Tigers... Oh well.

That reminds me of the lyrics to Weird Al's Why does this always happen to meThe Top Crusader wrote:I hope they get the whole thing overwith soon so I can get back to regularly schedule programming on Fox. I don't really watch Fox much but in case I decide to this is very inconsiderate of them.

I wish Weird Al would run for President.

That was the game I assumed the Cards had a chance in, but I assumed it would be 2-1 Tigers, not 2-1 Cards.
Suppan vs. Bonderman tonight is rtough, really tough. I wouldn't be surprised at all if the Cards miraculously go up 3-1 tonight. The Tigers have Verlander and Rodgers in games 5 and 6. But then the Cardinals have Carpenter in game 7.
Almost everything points to a Cardinals championship I'm afraid

Plenty of Cards fans here I see...
However, they are the ones that beat my beloved home team the Houston Astros out of the playoffs, and thus I have a hard time rooting for them.
But I don't like the Tigers either. So whatever.

I am the only one to blame for this
Somehow it all ends up the same
Soaring on the wings of selfish pride, I flew too high
and like Icarus I collide
with the world I tried so hard to leave behind
