Good. The reason for changing that text for the shortcut is to make DOSBOX look in you DOS folder.

OK, type in:
CD CARMEN

And hit enter

(CD is the dos command for "change directory" so CD CARMEN will change the directory to the carmen folder)

Ok, now we need to run the game's install program.

Type in:
install

and hit enter.

And if that doesn't work, try typing in:
setup

and hit enter.

If they install program comes up OK, let me know what it gives you for options.

I already have it installed BTW. When I did 'install' it was an illegal command. When I did 'setup' it said that it requires windows.

Did you copy all the files (including folders) off of the CD into the CARMEN folder?

Type in DIR and hit enter from the Carmen folder, and give me a list of all the files it shows.

Also does it give a copyright date on the CD? What year was this version of the game released?

Yes.

Now I can see all of the files after typing in DIR.

I don't know, I'd have to take the disk out.

Do you have the CD case? The copyright date would be on that too.

What do you see for files?

Sorry, I can't even remember how I got the CD. I think it came in a plain paper envelope for CDs.

Here's what I got:

Have you ever got this game running before on any computer?

Seeing the date 1999 on those files makes me wonder if it's really a DOS game or not.

I think it was Windows 95 or 2000.

Do you remember if the game looked like these screen shots?

http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/where ... creenshots

If not, and it's the newer Windows Carmen Sandiego USA game then it should run in XP, because I have the newer Windows Carmen Sandiego game and it runs on my XP computer.

Alright, it partially worked on the XP. Thanks for running around in circles for me. Sorry about that...

Ok, it's a Windows game then.

No, problem.

Have you tried checking the Windows 95 compatibility box on the game's short cut icon to see if that makes it run any better?

What are you meaning by "partially worked"?

How do I check that option?

And the game would run for a while, then shut itself off. I'm not sure if that was due to memory space problems though...

Right click on the short game icon for the game then select properties from the menu.

At the top of the window that pops up giving info on the short cut, you will see three tabs, general, shortcut, compatibilty.

Click on the compatiblity tab.

Then check the box that says "run this progam in compatibility mode for:"
Then select Windows 95 you can also select the other boxes too, they might help it run better too. Then hit ok.

*sigh* it says that I need Quicktime 2.1 for it to work properly... maybe I'll try Millenium compatibility...

As long as you have Quicktime on your computer having 2.1 shouldn't matter, just click cancel when it says that.

Well, I got to go now. Let me know if you can get it running OK.

Mines of Titan anyone? I've read that it's a rehash of an older game called "Mars Saga." It took me years to beat the game. If anyone asks me here, or in PM, I'll tell you why. I don't want to give any spoilers...

I started looking at that game again, but I need to get around to trying to win it.

As far as I known "Mars Saga" was the release name for the Commodore 64 release, and "Mines of Titan" was the release name of this game for all the other platforms. I don't think that there is any differences in the game itself other than the "Mars Saga" - "Mines of Titan" name change. But I could be wrong?

Anybody here ever play Wasteland, Starflight, or Buck Rogers: Countdown to Doomsday?

I looked up Mines of Titan in Wikipedia. It said that Mines of Titan eliminated the useless abilities such as electronics, language, mechanics, strategy. They are still there, and if you do any hexediting, you can give your character these abilities.

For this game, it was pretty easy to mod the savegames. I can send anyone interested my "thesis paper" on it ;-)
