Is this supposed to be an impossible race. Do the numbers have something to do with it?

No, not at all. In fact, I thought this clue was quite easy.

Yes, the numbers are part of it. In fact, the numbers may get you to your clue faster than the words...

How I really feel is furious, actually. I have been put at a major disadvantage in the next part through faulty planning (no offense meant at all, it’s just the truth; I know it was an innocent oversight, but that doesn’t change how unfair it is) in the event setup. I should be way out in front after getting past the first one, instead there are at least two others ahead of me.

Once again, bookworm, I do apologize for the oversight. You have been given a time credit to make up for the time lost, due to production errors, as is customary on the actual show. :)

And I do thank you for that, it seemed adequate for the initial problem, but then when there was a related followup delay things seem to have gotten off track?
Had everything worked I would have been checked in early yesterday afternoon, instead I got through late this morning. That’s a huge difference of many hours. You’re saying had I gotten through on my first try I would still have been in third place? I find that very hard to picture, since only one other person appeared to have made any progress at the time? It seems I should have been at least in second.

You would have, in fact, been in second. So I'm increasing your time credit so that you may leave alongside the second place person.

Alright. It's been over 24 hours since y'all got your clue, and only 5 teams have figured it out. For the other six of you, I fear there is no way to get you to the pit stop without a small amount of guidance. So I'm giving you a small hint.

Your clue is not a riddle that you must figure out the answer to. It is a clue to your next clue, which will not be given to you by me.

I've figured that much out already, and I'm fairly certain I've "deciphered" the clue correctly, I'm just not sure where exactly it's trying to lead me...

Woohoo! I finally found out the clue and did the challenge. It only took 2 and a half hours to finish but now I am in 6th place! Better than last but worse than I hoped I would be doing.

So, four teams are still stuck on the first clue. I really wasn't anticipating this. So, I'm now posting the clue publicly, and anyone who wishes to help you guys may do so.

The clue is:

9 31436 200 1047819: Heavenly Mourners Capture New York.
