They're just trying to make more money off of it.
Good plan. It'll work, too

There's definitely only two movies... And honestly, I'm excited for the second. Last I heard it was going to wrap up The Hobbit then dive into the appendixes and bridge the gap between The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

very slightly a joke but that was a completely incorrect paragraph The whole book was entirely about the Scouring of the Shire. Everything else is just buildup. That part is the true story. It's not about destroying the ring. It's about that. It's not a tired subplot. It is THE PLOT.
Um, wait, what?

How is
LotR entirely about the Scouring of the Shire?

Yeah, it's really.. not.

Perhaps my comment was an exaggeration, and it HAS been many years since I last read it, but I only recall feeling like "ok so we finally reached the climax, everything's resolved and now they get to go back home... wait, THIS guy? I forgot about him. THAT'S annoying."

I'm excited for this movie

it will be awesome. I've actually read the book this time, unlike Fellowship of the Ring where I got halfway through and got a bit bored. Maybe one day I'll pick it up again....

It's not

Not at all.

Yeah, I don't believe it is either, but I am curious to hear Knight Fisher's point of view. Then we can all throw stones at him and, in no uncertain terms, explain how wrong he is.

I never did give my opinion did I?

Anywho sad news.

We don't get to see Lake Town until 2013 according to Production Video 6 on the Hobbit Blog.

I've read the Hobbit, though none of the others, and seen none of the others. I'm super-hyped for the Hobbit! I might even watch all the others.

Since I last posted here, I've become even more excited because Martin Freeman plays Bilbo

He's great in the BBC show Sherlock, so anything else with him will be equally brilliant.

Plus his Sherlock co-star, Benedict Cumberbatch, will be playing both the voice of Smaug and the Necromancer.

The only sad part is that I read both he and Freeman are so busy with this and other films, that they won't be able to film more Sherlock episode until 2013.

^this too

it's going to be amazing. But yeah, I also lament the long wait till Sherlock filming and air date

And don't forget that Benedict is also in the Star Trek sequel; both him and Martin have become very sought after actors as of late.
yay another Sherlockian!

Sherlockians. Why isn't there a thread on here for us? Srsly. *Yeah, I'm a huge fan. I think Benedict needs a hug.* I'm making one...
I thought for a second I had missed a production video. But, alas, I have seen #6. I'm really excited for the Hobbit. It's gonna rock. I can't get myself through the other three movies, but somehow I'm gonna do the Hobbit. Since it's a prequel anyway, why not start there?

December can't come fast enough. I'd read the books if I had time. Oh, time, what I don't have.

Sherlock! That series is awesome! We got Season 1 a while ago from the library! Too little episodes for a season.

^I hear that; but at least they're twice as long as regular TV episodes
Season 2 is available May 22 (in the US anyway, it's already available in England

)

Has anyone else realized that Radagast the Brown is played by the Seventh Doctor?
