Scene #1

Karen (sad tone): I miss you so much, Kevin. You were the best brother in the world.
*Hannah walks in. She gives Karen a hug.*
Hannah: He was a wonderful guy.
*Karen nodded.*
Karen (bitterly): The only flaw he had was believing that Christian mumbo jumbo that Matt introduced him to.
Hannah (in a soft voice): I am beginning to think that his Christianity wasn’t that stupid. Maybe…He was actually right. Perhaps God is really out there. I now have a reason to believe in God.
Karen (looking up at Hannah); What reason, Mom?
Hannah: I have a reason to believe in God because then I have a hope that I might see Kevin again. I got his Bible out. I thought I might read it sometime.
Karen (rolling her eyes): Fine, but don’t expect me to believe that stuff.
*Karen get’s up and leaves.*

*Matt is in his room wiping his eyes.*
Matt’s mom (calling him in a soft, compassionate voice): Matthew, Karen is here to see you.
Matt: Send her up.
*Karen enters the room and sits beside him.*
Matt (in a whisper tone): Are you here to tell me the whole story like you promised?
*Karen nodded*
Karen: He was running to the store for my mom. We then get a knock at the door. They said that he was killed in a car accident by a drunk driver. He died instantly….I can’t believe he has been gone for only a month.
*Matt gives her a brotherly hug.*
Matt: He really loved you. He told me once that he loved God, then you two, and then me.
Karen: You were his best friend.
*Karen stands up.*
Karen: I should go now.
Matt: Bye and thank for sharing the whole story. I know it was hard for you.
*Karen is about to leave, but Matt stops her.*
Matt (serious tone): His greatest wish was that you and your mom would one day know Jesus.
Scene #3
Karen walks in and sees her mom crying. She rushes to her side.*
Karen: Mom!? Is everything okay?
Hannah (tearfully): Everything is perfect. Honey, I was reading Kevin’s Bible. It actually made sense. So, I called Matt’s mom. She said that I could have a personal relationship with Jesus. All of my sins could be forgiven, and when I die, I will be able to see Kevin again.
*Hannah put’s her hand on Karen’s shoulder.*
Hannah: Sweetie, today I became a Christian.
Karen (in a shocked manner): What!? How could you?
Hannah: God loves us. He wants to be our daddy. He loves you more than you could ever imagine.
Karen (bitterly): If he really loved us, how come he took Kevin away from us?
Hannah: I don’t know, Honey, but if we believe in him, we will see Kevin again.
Karen (curiously): So, how do you get saved?
Hannah: you ask Jesus to come into your heart. Ask him to forgive your sins, and believe in him. Believe that he died on the cross and rose again on the third day.
Karen (angrily): You actually believe that stuff? Fine! Believe it just like Kevin did, but I will never believe it!
*Karen storms out of the room.*
Scene #4
*Karen is on the couch sleeping. She then dreams*
Scene #5
*Kevin walks in while Karen is doing homework in her bedroom*
Kevin (excitedly): Sis! You will never believe this.
*Karen turns and faces him.*
Karen (nonchalantly): What is it?
Kevin: You know my best friend, Matt? I spent the Wednesday night with him. Remember? Anyway. I was really interested in what Jesse, the youth group pastor, was saying. I decided to look deeper into this Jesus stuff. Matt gave me a Bible, and I began reading it. Sis, today I asked Jesus to come into my heart.
Karen: Your joking right?
Kevin: I’m not kidding. I just got off the phone with Matt. He was so excited. Did you know he was praying for me to get saved since he was 6? He’s been praying 12 years for me. Now his prayer has been answered. I am now going to start praying for you and Mom. I want you two to know God.
Karen: I don’t believe it! Overnight you have suddenly gotten “holy.”
Kevin (seriously): I’m not holy, Karen. I just want to please God.
*Kevin leaves.*
Karen (mumbling): Matt brainwashed him.
Scene #6
*Karen wakes up*
Karen: Weird dream.
*Hannah walks in.*
Hannah: Are you okay?
*Karen nods.*
Karen: I think I am going to take a walk.
*Karen leaves*
Scene #7
*Karen is walking and runs into Matt.*
Matt: Hi.
Karen: Hi…My mom became a Christian today.
*Matt smiles.*
Matt: My mom told me. Kevin would be so happy. I will still be praying for you.
Karen (sharply): Don’t waste your breath. I don’t need God.
Matt: Yes, you do. We all do, but sometimes we don’t know we do.
Karen: I’ve lived without God for fifteen years. Why should I start following him now?
Matt: How much did your brother love you?
Karen: A lot. Why?
Matt: God loves you even more than Kevin did. He sent his son to die for every sinner on the planet.
Karen: I’ve heard this story before, Matt. Now stop preaching to me.
Matt (chuckling): That’s almost like asking me to stop breathing.
*Karen rolls her eyes.*
Matt (seriously): I know you don’t believe in God. You might even be mad at him for taking Kevin, but he loves you so much. We can’t even fathom his love. Would you send your only son to die for a bunch of sinners? So, they can be saved and got to heaven.
Karen (quietly): I don’t think so. I mean they don’t deserve to be save.
Matt: You right. We don’t deserve his mercy, but he love us so much that he give it to us anyway. No one’s perfect. If Jesus didn’t die on the cross and raise from the dead, going to heaven would be impossible.
Karen: You really believe that stuff don’t you.
*Matt nods.*
Scene #8
*Karen is in her bedroom studying. Hannah walks in carrying a notebook.*
Hannah (quietly): Karen, I found this in…Kevin’s room. It’s his journal.
*Hannah set’s it down beside Karen.*
Hannah: I’ll leave you alone now.
*Hannah leaves.*
*Karen slowly opens the book and starts to read silently.*
Kevin: Dear journal, I am starting this because today is a very important day in my life. I became a Christian today. After I read some of that Bible Matt gave me, I realized that I was a sinner and I needed forgiveness. I called up Matt and asked him how to ask Jesus in my heart. It was the greatest thing I ever experience. I felt so happy. Free from sin.
*Karen closes the book.*
*Karen walks downstairs to her mom.*
Karen: Mom?
Hannah: Yes, Karen?
Karen: Could I come to church with you? I just interested in what it’s all about.
Hannah (smiling): Nothing would make me happier.
Scene #9
*Karen is sitting in the passenger seat of a car.*
*Matt walks up*
Matt: Hi. I was glad to see you at church.
Karen: Yeah. It was pretty neat.
Matt (seriously): I just wanted you to know that you can’t become a Christian by just going to church.
Karen (annoyed): I know that!
Matt: Sorry. I just wanted to be sure that you did. So many people got to church all of their lives, but they don’t realize that they need a relationship with Jesus too. Church won’t save you from heck or your sins. It’s a great place for Christians to learn and have fellowship with each other, but they can only be saved through Jesus.
*Hannah walks up with a bag of groceries.*
Hannah: Hello, Matt.
*Matt greets her then leaves.*
Karen: Mom, how did it feel like when you got saved?
Hannah: I felt free from sin. I felt happy. Now I know that I will see Kevin again.
Karen: How do you know? How can you be sure?
Hannah: I know because I believe in the one and only God. The same God that Kevin believed in. Honey, Jesus loved us so much that he died for us. Just think. The physical pain that Jesus had on the cross was only a fraction of what he felt. He had everyone’s sin upon him. He had all of the murders, unfaithful marriages, lying, and all of the other sins in the world.
Karen (thoughtfully): If Kevin died before he believed that stuff, he would have left behind a legacy of just being a good guy, but since he died a Christian. He now had a legacy of being a changed man. In just a year he changed so much. Ever since he became a Christian he stopped swearing. He was nicer. Now you became a Christian, Mom. You have changed too. If God has such an effect on people, then he has to be real.
Hannah: He is real. If it wasn’t for Kevin. We wouldn’t be here discussing God.
Karen: Mom? I think I want to believe what you believe. What Kevin believed.
Hannah: Are you sure? You will never be the same again.
Karen (passionately): I’m sure.
Hannah (excitedly): This is the happiest day of my life.
*The both bowed their heads.*
Karen: God, I know it took me so long to finally believe in you. Now I do. I believe that you sent your sun, Jesus to died for my sins. I believe that he rose after the third day. Please forgive me of all my wrong. Come into my heart and make me clean and forgiven. Thanks, God. Amen.
*Hannah and Karen hug each other.*
Scene #10
*Karen is in the living room with Matt.*
Matt (shocked): You are a Christian! Karen, that’s awesome! I have been praying for you….Kevin prayed for you too.
Karen: I know.
*Hannah walks in with three drinks. She hands on the Matt and Karen. She takes a sip of her drink.*
Matt: I am really happy for both of you. Kevin would be so pleased.
*Hannah nods.*
Karen: If it wasn’t for Kevin, we wouldn’t be Christians today.
Matt: Kevin was an amazing man. His main focus was on God.
Karen (smiling at Matt): Then Mom and me. Then you.
