Matt announced that he's decided to leave after the Christmas special.

I will definitely miss him. Not as heartbreakingly as I missed Tennant, but still.

I warmed up to Matt just in time for him to leave

I was kind of surprised at this because everyone has said that Matt was confirmed for season 8. Guess not So does that mean John Hurt will be replacing him as the Doctor?

No, John Hurt will not. His character is special; they never reveal the next regeneration until the final episode for the current one. It's part of their evil scheming.

I'm sure whoever plays Twelve will be great, but I've recently got really attached to Matt as the Doctor. Tennant was my favorite, but now they're both equally as awesome in my mind. This just isn't fair.

That is correct. Initially, he had some sort of contract that bound him to the role until 2014. But from what I understand, Matty himself actually quit early.

It's certainly an interesting turn of events, and I'm not necessarily sure that it's for the best. I would have liked to see Matty "take on" one more season of Doctor Who, with Clara remaining as his companion. He's right in the middle of his prime...I wonder why he would want to stop. I'm sure that he had some great reasons, but I'm still slightly sad over his impending departure.

And here I started to like him after the last episode.
