Maybe because a lot of the book was Katniss' thoughts? I don't know, it just felt like there should be something else.
Edit: Finished the last book today! I liked them, although the last book was starting to depress me.

I liked Peeta! He was the closest thing to a pacifist in the entire series.

I liked Finnick the best. I didn't really like Peeta or Katniss, and I kinda liked Gale.

Katniss got on my nerves in the books. I liked Finnick and Peeta.....Gale was okay I guess.

We must be reading two different books. The Peeta I remember was brave, clever, and forced into several terrible situations that no one should ever have to face. (Of course, that goes for something like half the cast, in varying degrees.)

Eh, I didn't like Peeta and Gale all that much mainly because of the reason I already stated: They made a much too big deal about falling in love with Peeta when she actually loves Gale...
