Okay here in in indiana these are the rules:

You can get your permit at 15 and a half if you are in drivers training (no test)
-with a permit you can only drive with family members over 21
-then to get your license you must be 16 and half and pass a written and driving test (may be taken with the school)
-you cannot not drive with anyone under 21 in your vehicle until you are 17

If you do not take drivers ed:
-can get a permit at 16 and must pass a written test
-then you must be 16 and nine months before getting your drivers lisence which of course requires a written and driving test
-must be 17 and 3 months before you can drive with anyone
