If you could be a missionary ...

If there's something on your mind that just doesn't seem to fall into any of the other categories, well, it quite likely belongs inside Joe Finneman's marketplace. Think of it as a general store for general discussions!

You need to listen to Missionary impossable.
Missionary impossable? never heard of it. what is it?
It's an AIO episode!
 my bad. I don't really memorize the names of the episodes. I just like listening to them. :D

I remember that one. we can witness to people here in America but I'm being called elsewhere. It's what God has placed on my heart. When I grow up and graduate collage I will go. Until then I am a witness to all I meet. Through the way I live and when God tells me to speak I speak.
Well if God has called you to somewhere else than that's where you should go, but you said that like you really just wanted to travel the world. Do you really feel that God has called you to anywhere but the U.S.?

I am a missionary. My mission field for now is Lincoln, Nebraska. Someday it may change.

I don't know. Perhaps a poverty-stricken place, like Africa or India? I don't know, but I hate people starving or sick.

Where God calls me. :)

At the moment I'm not quite sure where that is, but as Christians we are ALL called to spread the gospel and worship our God.
Although I would probaly go somewhere not yet reached...I've had a heart for either Europe or South America... Or maybe in my local church. :) But I know for sure that I will be in the ministry, no matter where it is.

I want to travel the world and tell the people about Jesus. And yes, I believe God is calling me away from the U.S. I'm not sure exactly yet where I will go but it will probably be somewhere in South America or in the Muslim nations. I have known this for a long time. God has placed it on my heart to go.

The problem about being a missionary in the USA is that a lot of people say they are "christians" just because they go to church every Sunday..and people here are not as eager to hear about God as people in other countries..also,most people here have heard about God where as some people in other countries have never heard about God.
Now it's too late for you and your white horse to come around....

My church has an awesome youth ministry. This year will be the third year that a group of some of the highschoolers get to go on a mission trip to Jamaica. It sounds pretty cushy, but it's anything but, because once you go inland (past the beaches and the tourist areas) the country is really poverty-stricken.

Also, this year, there might be another highschool mission trip to Kenya, which is so exciting! I expect that a lot of students will have a hard time deciding between the two, especially if they've been to Jamaica and have invested in relationships there.

Anyway, the point I'm trying to make, I guess, is that anyone can be involved in missions, even internationally, no matter how old they are. And short-term mission work can make just as much of an impact as full-time missions.

Yes, but people who say they're christians just because they go to church every week and people who have never even heard the name Jesus are both going to heck. It is important to tell all the people who have never been told, but I believe that it's equally important to help the ones who have been told, but don't have a one on one relationship with him to trust in him and believe.

My sister has been on short term mission trips to Jamaica and Ethiopia (which is near Kenya). She's actually getting ready to go to Uganda full time after this school year. My other sister is a full time missionary in Odessa, Ukraine.

I posted something about this in the debate forum...although it didn't really end up being much of a debate.

I think we need to be careful with what we tell people about missions. I think its possible that the message "You don't have to leave the country to be a missionary" might be said a little TOO often. Of course you can be a missionary at home...but if everyone decides to do that, then how are those who have never heard the name of Jesus going to receive the Gospel. Don't ignore it if God calls you to leave your comfort zone to spread the Word. It's exactly what NEEDS to be done...and I don't think enough American churches are doing that anymore.
