Back in the days of the Samurai Japan was not in contact with any other country. Samurai were actually very honorable, even choosing to wait untill their enemy was ready to fight. They (maybe) didn't wear armor probably because armor wasn't really heard of in Japan. Don't hold me on that though. The only information I really know is from anime and manga, with a bit of information from the research the mangaka did.

I interject. Yes, the samurai of the feudal Japanese era wore armor. It looked like large fish scales that overlapped. Or the analogy could be made to roof shingles. Just Google "samurai" in images.

Like I said. I don't know for sure. I was just basing my knowledge from the few samurai mangas I read. Which in those mangas they didn't wear armor.
