Obama wins Nobel Peace Prize

If there's something on your mind that just doesn't seem to fall into any of the other categories, well, it quite likely belongs inside Joe Finneman's marketplace. Think of it as a general store for general discussions!

Eh, I know plenty of total Obamamaniacs who are completely shocked he won; even though they like him they don't think he has done enough to win a huge honor...
I'm going to second all of that, and what Jeremy said, so go ahead Tyler. You have me genuinely curious as to what defense could possibly exist.

It seems like most people just kinda scratched their chins and wondered, "For what?", when Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize. Well, ladies and gentlemen, I have the answer to that very good question. Obama won for simply not being George W. Bush.

While I don't agree with every single thing Bush did in office, I do believe he fought hard for our country and lead our nation through a very, very difficult eight years. I find it sad that we turn right around and give someone such a huge honor for just not being him. But, this is the world we live in...

yeah, notice everyone, this prize is determined by only 5 Norwegian citizens. "Not being bush" is apparently a perfectly valid criterion! lol. Anyway, it did prompt me to go look more into how the prize was established and how it is chosen, which was kinda interesting.

He was in office 12 days at the time when the nominations to the committee had to be postmarked.

Submissions were solicited in September I think I read.

Wow, he got a NPP for being elected and moving into the White House.

Well, that's rather impressive, not everyone can do that. :P

There's an awesome video you guys should watch on the subject. \:D/

I think he got it based on what he wants to do. It's kind of like a credit system now--which is a pity because all he's done so far is ruin everyone's lives and eat all our steak.

Uncle Jay is my new favouritest person alive. :inlove:

My grandfather mentioned that Obama had won the NPP at the dinner table, today. I asked what everyone else is asking. He gave me the same answer. -tragic sigh-

There was a letter to the editor in today's paper that said Obama talks, unlike the previous administration from whom he inherited a bunch of problems. Of course this means he should get it, there should be no question!

I literally had to read it several times before I could digest that.

Yo, Watson, I'm really happy you think so, and I'mma let you finish, but Yasser Arafat was the best NPP winner of all time! OF ALL TIME.
So you lost your trust,
And you never should have.
No, you never should have.
But don't break your back
If you ever see this,
But don't answer that.
In a bullet proof vest
With the windows all closed,
I'll be doing my best
I'll see you soon.

When did they start awarding the NPP at the dinner table?
Seriously, why did he win a peace prize? Hasn't he actually sent more troops into the war?
