The Official "Darien's Rise" Discussion Thread
Okay, by now, you should all be aware of the ultimate prize that was made available late yesterday afternoon. In case you haven't figured it out already, the reward was none other than the first episode of Darien's Rise. That's right! You can hear part one of the audio dramatization two weeks before it airs on the radio! Rather than creating individual threads for each episode, I figured I might as well start up an official discussion thread for the entire Darien's Rise drama. This will also save us from having to use the spoiler tags in other threads.
So what do you think so far? Is it everything you expected it to be? What do you think of Andre? Thoughts on Shane Baumel and Rachel Fox?

I obviously can't comment until I've heard heard all of the episodes. However, I will say one thing:
Andre is certainly very good at the new Whit. I thought he rocked!

Amazing! I love it! I'm so excited to get the whole set, now! I thought Shane Baumel and Rachel Fox were great and I'm even more impressed with Andre. It was also cool to hear the final sound of Kyle falling that we got to see being worked on in the video podcast forever ago.
One thing that struck me as slightly odd, though, was Whit's narration style. It just seemed kind of weird for him to be reading it like he did with no one else in the room, especially the part where, I believe it's Kyle, finishes his sentence. But, I am glad they didn't have him be reading it to some one.
I'm sure changing a book into a radio drama is very difficult.

Wait!!! *everyone stops* Is the guy Jack is talking to seriously Whit? No way! It sounds like Winnie the Pooh, but not Mr. Whittaker... This'll take some getting used to.

Is it just me or does Jack sound so much better in contrast to cartoon style Whit?

Although at least one disagrees, I felt like Andre had the deep Paul voice. I noticed it the most in the first scene. To hear more detail on my thoughts on the recent info, check my podcast out. I released episode 45 tonight.
I'm impressed with Andre, Shane and Rachel, but I still think that Rachel sounds far too old to be Shane's younger sister.

I only listened to the first 11 minutes.I want to wait and hear it on the radio. My sister wasn't very happy though.
I liked almost all of it. Whit, for some reason, sounded really hyper at the beginning. Towards the middle I started hearing a little bit Hal Smith and Whit started to calm down. So it was good.

Whit sounds like Tom should sound like... AH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It looks to me that Chris is not going to be into/ending person for this album. Hopefully she will be back for the next season!

I loved hearing Part One! It was great just hearing the story brought to life by the wonderful actors, music, sound effects, etc. Even though I've read the book dozens of times and knew what was going to happen, the audio dramatization made the story new again, and it was a delight to hear. I particularly enjoyed Rachel Fox as Anna and Jim Cummings as King Lawrence (I definitely heard a bit of Tigger in there). I actually think Shane Baumel sounds too young to be Anna's older brother, but that was a minor quibble. Overall, a great first part, and I'm eagerly anticipating the next 8 parts to come!
A bit of Tigger, and a whole heap of Pete.H Tide wrote:I particularly enjoyed...Jim Cummings as King Lawrence (I definitely heard a bit of Tigger in there).

Well, I think it would sound about right if Rachel still sounded as young as she did in The Chosen One. Maybe they didn't know that her voice had matured so much.H Tide wrote:I actually think Shane Baumel sounds too young to be Anna's older brother, but that was a minor quibble.
